|
|
I have just upgraded to Win 7 (64 bit) and am having a problem with copying the camera database & POIs to it.
After extracting the zip files I tried to copy them only to find that my TomTom XL IQ Routes would not accept some of them, apparently because the TomTom is seen as a FAT drive. To get all of them on to the sat nav I will have to reformat it to NTFS.
Is this normal and can the TomTom be re-formatted to NTFS? |

Switching to 64 bit Windows shouldn't be a problem, and no, you don't need to reformat the device.
1) What is exact error message you get?
2) Have you tried redownloading the files in case one or two are corrupt? |

I can't remember what the error messages were, so I'll try running it again & see what comes up & let you know.
I've never had a problem with my desktop & previous laptop, (both XP), as everything went in ok. |

Just tried it again & it's gone in ok this time.
However when I connected the TomTom to the laptop I did get an "error" message, (as before), asking me if I wanted to scan & fix the TomTom as there might be a problem with some files on this device, (related to corrupt or damaged files?). Followed by 2 options:
Scan & Fix (recommended)
or
Continue without scanning |

Windows Vista / 7 does that all the time with USB drives. Wouldn't worry about it too much. Do the scan if you are worried.
Not sure why Vista / 7 thinks so many drives are flagged as "dirty". |

Don't you have to be careful about the .chk files on the TomTom? ISTR Windows might do something bad if it finds them thinking, mistakenly that they are chkdsk files? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for your thoughts folks.
The TT is running ok, so I'll leave well alone for now, while I've still got my XP desktop & laptop & they are happy with the TT as it is. Am intending to get rid of them in due course, so when I do I might do a scan if W7 keeps nagging me. |

When CHKDSK is run any files it can recover but it has no filename info for are named found001.chk, found002.chk etc.
Windows might delete them if you ask it to remove any "found" files, but running CHKDSK won't do anything with the CHK files.
The real danger comes from running programs such as CCleaner which have an option to remove the CHK files. If it where run on a TomTom drive it could result in vital files being deleted from a TomTom. |

I may have run CCleaner while my 930 was connected to the computer, what files do I need to look for to see if I have deleted anything.
I do have a full backup.

For sure a data.chk file in the root of the unit MUST be there. Also, dataXX.chk files must be in the voices folder. _________________ David |

Hi,
Having got my 750 pretty much sussed out on my "old" XP PC I have now got a new PC running Windows 7 64bit. I have transferred all of the relevant folders over to the new PC via my backup hard drive into the same places on the new PC but when I connect up the 750 the new PC does nothing except offer to open up in Windows Explorer ie TT does not appear in the Start menu etc.
Any ideas as to what I should try next? I tough that I would try here first before going to TT Home.
Regards, jack. |

That's standard for any unit you connect to a pc computer, Windows asks how to handle the new external drive it has just detected (you can stop it from asking, btw).
Once it's connected to the computer, now start Home and see if it's detected there. _________________ David |

That's all that has ever happened with any of my TomToms and any PC!
When you connect the TomTom, the PC just treats it as a new "disk drive".
What were you seeing in the Start menu?
You're not confusing between just connecting the Go to the PC and having TomTom's "Home" utility start running are you? |

Hi again,
Just managed to get everything on 750 working now. Created a shortcut using Windows Explorer to Program Files(x86) and hence to the .exe file and shoved this on my desktop and hey presto I'm up & running.
I'm really glad I don't change my PCs very often - 6yrs this time and Windows7 is being a bit of a problem coming from XP.
So, on the speed camera issue I have given Road Angel until 21 May to respond to my requests and if there is no response (which I am anticipating) I shall be cancelling my Compact subscription and moving over to your PGPSW Speed Camera database for the 750. I'll then be keeping my eyes open for new camera locations!
Cheers, jack. |
