My 760 seems to be dying at the moment and am wondering what the best option is to replace it. Just tried a friend's tomtom and found that, even though it was only bought last November and she said she has updated the maps, it seems very out of date. Was considering switching to tt as have been told they are easier to use with computer but am suspicious! Is the 1490t well thought of? Have read negative things about 1690 regarding lines on screen and distortion of sound when it's downloading stuff. Any views? Sorry this is a rather vague question.

I've got an iphone and am using TT V1.3 with HD traffic and car kit - I've used it on several long trips with daily commuting. i'm impressed with the routing (iq routes) and the HD traffic.
Whilst I believe Navteq maps are better I haven't been impressed with Garmin. My Nuvi 660 is now a backup for my iphone. |

What are the relative merits of the 765t as opposed to the 1490t? Am finding this choice between tt and garmin very difficult. The usability of tt seems to pip garmin but I have very limited experience of tt. The map errors are worrying.

It depends what features are important to you. I used to rate map accuracy as the most important but now rate routing based on time and day of the week and good traffic information top of my priorities. The TT V1.3 software isn't perfect but with the app being on a smartphone I can use the other apps (google maps etc).
Traffic was flaky at best on Nuvi660 - It does work but only 5% of the time. (Not good receptoion M4/M3 corridor)
There are newer garmin models being released - Have you looked at the 1690T and 3700 series. Garmin let you do a compare on their website. |

Thanks. I think the 1690 is just a bit too expensive for me and I haven't seen a price for the 3700 but imagine that will be the same. I'll give it a quick check before I buy.
