Hence the reason why I still have TT One original which does what it says on the tin, takes me from A to B without problems over the last five years. No freezing screen issues, volume control, mp3, TTS, postcodes insisting on street numbers &c, and why you would want three models on your dash to make sure one at least gives the right information says it all. So much for progress with each model they turn out. Rant over. _________________ TT Start 60-OS:1344689 (12/9/13)

I recently had hold of one of these from a member who sent it to me to clean it up after his mate had slightly bodged the camera downloads.
I was hugely jealous - it booted up faster, got a satellite fix faster, calculated and recalculated routes faster and everything else (even battery life) seemed rock solid. I seriously wondered if I could get away with telling him it had never arrived so must be lost in the post so that I could keep it!
Since getting my iPhone, I have had to reduce my windscreen to only two, so yesterday I was directed to turn into the wrong end of a one way street in Watford. _________________ Dennis

Yes, I like that one - however, I'm not arranging on planning a route there yet
But back to the matter in hand - There are programmes on the telly about rogue builders, plumbers, electricians etc - how long do you think it will be before we see a series on "Rogue Bankers, Utility Company Chief Execs and IT Consultants, dodgy manufacturers, you get the picture.
However, it would probably never be transmitted due to legal threats - commonly referred to as "a change in the programme schedules". _________________ TT Start 60-OS:1344689 (12/9/13)

Surely where the petrol station hasn't either closed down five years ago or never even existed in the first place and is instead a large head office owned site then one would expect a nightly electronic data update to be being sent to TomTom or its petrol price supplier in the case of sites run by Esso, Shell, BP etc.
So unless you are suggesting that you seriously believed that TomTom might just be using a random number generator within currently specified likely maximum and minimum prices for unleaded fuel then it would be pretty shocking if a fair bit of even TomTom's petrol price data wasn't accurate.
I would say probably at least 70% of their prices are right apart from the additional error of always rounding down from .9 to .0 but that is really no help at all when you are hoping to find the cheapest possible petrol prices available near to you or on your journey with the service and the ones being shown as cheapest are instead simply the most out of date.
I haven't even seen anyone mention yet that the Find Cheapest on Route aspect of the Live services petrol prices function is also inherently flawed in the case of any journey on a motorway because TomTom always shows you the distance to numerous petrol stations that would involve at least a 10 to 20 mile detour off the motorway as though you could simply drive there by an as the crow flies route straight line from your current motorway position. Find by Distance also works this way by showing the distance to the station as the crow flies and not as the roads run to the station but that is much less of an issue as one normally only uses this function when you need to fill up somewhere very near by. But to have a function entitled "Cheapest on Route" if you are on the motorway and for most of the petrol stations to be completely off the route renders the function totally useless unless you are already intimately familiar the route and know which petrol stations actually are on the motorway. The same problem applies on more major trunk A roads that are built to near full motorway standard with very few exits. |
I think you have misunderstood me.
It seems odd that some stations are spot on and update regularly, whilst phantom stations are not removed. Therefore, only a bit of housekeeping is needed.
As for the cheapest on route - have you not noticed the different icons which indicate if the station is directly on route, sightly off route or a diversion from the route.
Anyway, you are better off ranting at TT instead of on here - we have all been there done that and got the t-shirt - the data is not as good as it should be and there are hundreds of posts on here on the same subject. |

Today TomTom Support have updated my ticket on the incorrect fuel price issue as follows:-
Quote: | We appreciate the time you have taken to let us know what you think. We do our best to incorporate feedback from users of our Services. Your feedback has been passed on to the Fuel pricing specialists for further investigation and report.
We are currently investigating on this matter and we will notify you as soon as we have an update on the situation |
So they admit that they have so called "Fuel pricing specialists" somewhere in the company and/or externally and that the matter has now been passed on to them by Second Line support. In other words they have clearly accepted that the data and not my unit is at fault here.
So Progress of a kind but I imagine I am going to have to keep on chasing TomTom hard from here on to get any actual action rectification of the faulty fuel price data. |

I can see nothing in your quote from their reply to suggest that. They simply say that their Fuel Pricing specialists are investigating it. Their report may well say there's nothing wrong with their data and your unit must be at fault. _________________ Anita

Its a process known as "reading between the lines".
If TomTom believe anyone's unit is defective or corrupted their next step is normally almost always to suggest a Factory Reset and if that doesn't work to suggest that the unit is sent back to them for repair.
Here they haven't done that and for the first time they have acknowledged that there is a specialist section of the company responsible for maintaining the fuel prices. The reply indicating this referral has been made is from second level support and not from the front line. |

Keep pushing them for a refund on your subscription - the only time they seem to take any notice is when it starts to hit them in the pocket |

I contacted them about garages listed on my device as selling diesel for £1.04 and £1.07. The one showing £1.04 has not been a garage for over a year and the £1.07 is just showing the wrong price. Tomtom has asked me to fill in a form they sent to me, correcting the data. Isn't this what WE pay THEM to do? |

You have to admit, it’s just one huge joke of a service.
Whereby members submit updates (Mapshare) to help TeleAtlas for a map they have already paid for, and then are asked to submit corrections to fuel prices on another service they have paid upfront for (LIVE)
LIVE, now there’s a misnomer if ever there was one! Judging by what I read on the forum, I thought it was on a life support system 50% of the time.
I bet the accountants at Tom Tom and TeleAtlas didn’t realize what a huge gravy train this would turn out to be. _________________ TT Start 60-OS:1344689 (12/9/13)

I can assure you there isn't... They buy-in the data from an external provider.
And no, I don't know who it is. |
