As a newbie, I'm enjoying using my new SatMap on some walks around Berkshire. But I'm finding following routes less than ideal, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something. The problem is that the 'yellow road' showing the route is very wide, and tends to cover detail. This makes it difficult to identify features close to the route. Is there:

1. Any way to reduce the width of the 'yellow road'?

2. Is there a quick way to hide the route?

Unless I'm missing something, I'd like to suggest that the 'centre press' while following a route offered more useful options, particularly 'show/hide route', but also 'stop/start'.

Chris

The answers to your questions, as far as I am aware, are no & no. I've made more than one request to Satmap to either make the route narrower or more trasnparent. I have tried using it with 1:25K maps but, as you say, it obscures vital information. I often find it is not clear which side of a fence or hedge a footpath goes and rely on the Satmap to tell me, but if I have a route on screen I can't see it.

I don't if this will help. I use the route function all the time and I agree it obscures the footpaths. So when I plot the route out on a digital map i plot the route parallel to the footpath I want to take but not actually on it. I find it then works perfectly well.

We can tell you're a Geocacher Mr Gibson, most walkers set their screens to OS grid ;)

with apologies to the OP...

How did you get the screen-shot?

Cheers

Press and hold the backlight button. The unit will save a jpg of the screen to the SD card.

It's been said before on this forum that another way is to use as few waypoints as possible, and deliberately avoid plotting along a route. For most walks, the map will show one or more obvious paths between more widely spaced waypoints, and you may find it better to choose at the time according to the lay of the land.

Many people including me have complained about the excessive "noise" on the screen comprised in the several different ways a Route is displayed. I'm a cyclist and trying to discern the Route on some yellow and brown OS coloured roads is a nightmare. It's perhaps less troublesome when walking because you have more time to read it.

On another thread - the wishlist one - I've just suggested a fresh wish list with voting for each suggestion - I'd expect this issue to be high on such a list.

Rather than start a new thread, can anyone advise what the green dots are displayed at intervals between the red dots of the snail trail?

Thanks.

I cannot recall seeing any green dots on a trail but I think the waypoints on a route show up green. Does that fit?
