I'm giving my tomtom to someone but want to delete all my personal stuff eg favs, telephone book, etc. Is there a fast way to do this or do I have to suffer the Home program and work through all the menus |

Use Explorer to delete the file mapsettings.cfg in your specific map folder. That'll get rid of stuff like favourutes, recent destinations, home location.
In the contacts folder, look for a file called contacts.txt. Delete that one.
On your unit, restore to factory defaults will get rid of your personalized settings when you first got the unit. _________________ David |

First - On the TomTom itself, go to Mobile Phone, Phone Preferences, Delete, then tick everything. That gets rid of all your phone stuff - Address book, recent calls, etc.
Second - Using Windows Explorer, in the map folder (Western_Europe?) delete the file MapSettings.cfg. This gets rid of all your favourites, recent destinations, and all your preference settings. Do not worry about deleting it, because the TT will autpomatically create a new one when next it is switched on.
Third - Using Windows Explorer, in the map folder (Western_Europe?) delete all the files beginning with pocketgps. This removes the PockeGPSWorld Speed cameras which should be deleted before the device is sold on.
Fourth - Whilst still in the map folder, you can, if you wish, delete any POIs you installed yourself, maybe you'll recognise them by names like Esso, ASDA, MacDonalds, Travelodge, whatever. Or you could delete them using the TT Change Preferences, Manage POIs, Delete POI Categories. _________________ Dennis

Use Windows Explorer to view the files and folders on the device:
Favourites/ Home location is in your Western_Europe Map folder, the file is named "MapSettings.cfg" simply delete this file as the device will create a new one (blank) when it re-starts.
While you are looking at the contents of the Western_Europe map folder delete any Custom POI files you have installed (these end with a file extension of .bmp and .ov2).
Phone book, look in the contacts folder and you will see a number of txt files, delete them, again the device will create new ones when it needs them.
In the root of the device is a file named "ttgo.bif" right click this and choose "Open With/ NotePad" the 12th line down is your username, remove this text. Also look at line 29 as that will contain your Lat/ Long of your House! again delete this information.
You could try the restore factory defaults option on the device but I wouldn't trust it to clear everything listed above! - Choice is yours - Mike |

There are other files as well to get rid of:
In the map folder
deletedpoi.local
mapuserpatch.dat
traffic.inc
mapsettings.cfg
In the root of the device
settings.dat
userpatch.dat
currentmap.dat
ttgo.bif
tthome.bif
You also need to run a clearflash a couple of times as some settings are stored in flash and will magically reappear again, as well as a power button/paperclip reset and the restore factory settings.
If in doubt, format the device, load a clean Navcore and clean maps from the cab/zip files (back up the meta.dct file in your map folder first as this is the activation file, and copy it back afterwards).
All files in the itn, logging and contacts folders
There may be a few more on a GO model - not got one anymore to have a look though. |

Are you **sure** you deleted the mapsettings.cfg file in your map folder? Thats' where the recent destinations data is kept. _________________ David |
