That's interesting to know & fairly logical, thanks to you both - I don't think I'll be counting them all to find out though Laughing

It MAY also be caused by the stages in which the whole route can be calculated (though I admit I'm guessing a bit here!). The description of some of the satnavs I've had say that the journey can be calculated for (say) the first part, A, then the next, B, and then a final stage, C, to put the whole route together.

So, for example, you could get stage 'A' calculated on the way out one way, but when you come back 'A' might not be exactly the same section of the route as on the way out, or at least the first two stage calculations have brought you back to a different point.( Shocked )

Not sure if that makes any sense; Embarassed I've often wondered about it myself! Confused

I drive a black cab in london and its nearly always quicker to avoid piccadilly and use the mall when heading east.I have a 750 which is handy if I get a job out of town but is absolutly useless in the centre, the routes it plans are usualy longer or have busier traffic than the route that I would personaly plan myself. It also the has trouble keeping up with lefts and rights on the many small roads in citys.

I've noticed that if I'm on my way home following a longish motorway journey, say 50 miles or more, it will keep me on the motorway as long as possible, even though its further. If I return home on the same motorway, after only going one or two junctions, it brings me off the motorway much sooner, for a shorter way home.

How can that be choosing the quickest route?
