I have a problem since upgrading to the latest version of SatSYNC (1.42) (Running under Windows 7 64 bit)

If I create GPX files in Memory Map and then import them into my SatMap I often find that entire sections of the route have not been imported. I initially thought this was a problem with the SatMap itself but if I look at the contents of the MAP file created during the import it is missing all the waypoints. I also get the same problem if I use "File Converter" to convert to a map file.

The strange thing is that if I upload the same GPX file to the SatSync online route planner it appears fine without the lost points. It also displays fine in other apps that can import GPX files so I know there is no corruption in the GPX file.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I can send a GPX file that displays this behaviour if that would help.

I've sent you a PM with email address. If you send me the file I'll take a look at it.

Amazingly, after struggling with this annoying problem I have found a solution.

In Settings there is an option called "Filter Route Points from Routes"

By default this is set to "Yes" but if I change it to "No" then the conversion doesnt lose my waypoints.

I wonder if this is because my routes are often circular and it seems to be the return leg that goes missing. I expect that SatSync is trying to optimise my route by reducing unnecessary waypoints and it is making a dogs dinner of it.

Hi drpeej

I have the same problem - I can't find the 'Filter route points' option though? Can you illuminate me?

Ta!

If I can jump in for Peter.

(1) Open Satsync.
(2) Click on 'Settings' at right hand side.
(3) In first Tab 'Import(1/2)' go to the bottom pair of Radio buttons and make the change.
(4) Click OK.

Thanks Jonesbach

I had been using the mac satsync - the settings option isn't available on that. I have now switched to the PC and it's sorted. The named waypoints (bikley GPX file) become POI however which creates another problem for me. But I will try and work it out before I pester anyone again

Cheers

I have just phoned Satmap and it is a problem that they are aware of. As I thought, the "Filter Route Points" option is there to simplify a route where a lot of waypoints are in a straight line. It doesnt work and as it is enabled by default I suggest that everyone switches it off !!

They are working on a fix which will be in the next release of SatSync

I think it is potentially quite dangerous as its not always obvious that waypoints have been removed. Its obvious when a large chunk of the route has changed to a straight line but I recently had a route where a single waypoint had been removed. The problem was that it was at a crucial 90 degree change of route direction. The route directed me across a field instead of along the road (which was obviously wrong as I was on my bike)

If I had been walking in the mist along an exposed edge it might have been a problem !
