|
|
Hi All,
Wondered if any of you could help me...
I am currently trying to organise all of my photographs on my computer and want to organise them in their respective folders in order of date taken (earliest first) and then number them in the format 001, 002, etc. except for the folders which contain over 1000 photographs which will be numbered 0001, 0002, etc.
I have done this manually with the folders containing less than 200 photographs but it starts to get a bit tedious after a while and I am dreading doing the folders containing over 1000 photographs!
I did a quick search last night for software which could do this automatically for me but didn't find any that could use the numbering format mentioned above. I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations of software that they think might do this job?
If this can be done by batch, would somebody be able to post up the code and explain how to use and run it?
Many thanks in advance!

If you are using Windows many versions can also do this for you.
Order the files, select them all (CTRL+A) then right click and select Rename. Give the first file a name and then it'll rename them
File (1)
File (2)
File (3)
etc
Might be worth doing a quick test with a few files first to make sure it's what you want...
Otherwise IrfanView - Free is an excellent photo viewer and has a very flexible batch file renamer. |

I must concur with Paulb, windows does this without any other software, if you dont want the numbers in brackets then Irfanview is a very versatile and usefull program for both stills and video and free, also very good on slideshows. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8 |

Hi All,
Thanks for your useful suggestions. I went with IrfanView in the end as this numbered them the way I wanted them (without brackets) although I had to fiddle around with the names for a start to make sure it put them in the right order.
No doubt that it has saved me a lot of time though, as I renamed about seven folders last night in the time that it would have taken me to do half a folder manually!
