Hi Is there a decent stand alone speed camera unit that uses your database other than the Inforad K1 as I find the K1 goiing off all the time when there are no cameras in sight and going off on the motorway all the time before and after 50 mph limits.
I used to use a mio 510 which was great, but now I have MAZDA 3 with built in sat nav and cannot use your database.
Regards

Have you got an iPhone? Our CamerAlert app is 59 pence to buy, then plus the annual £20 subscription. BUT only available for iPhone at the moment. _________________ Dennis

Then I guess the decent solution is a cheapo satnav which will take our database. Virtually every TomTom (except the new Start) will accept it and you can get quite cheap refurbished ones. Check here for compatibility before you buy. _________________ Dennis

Are you sure the "no cameras in sight" are not just warning from where mobile cameras have been seen? Also, the roadwork Specs zones change about quickly as well. As far as I know, Inforad use other data sources as well as the db from here.
Can you still use the Mio for the warnings? Is it's routing better than the in-built one anyway? _________________ Gerry

The "no cameras in sight" are almost certainly camera/mobile locations on adjacent roads. The K1, like all standalone alert systems, is not a sat nav, and therefore has no sense of route. It simply alerts to cameras/mobile locations coming up within a certain range. This leads to multiple false alerts, eg if you're on a motorway and pass a camera/mobile location on a nearby A or B road.
I'm afraid it is for this reason my K1 - which I still think represents excellent value for money, nevertheless - is languishing in my desk drawer. |

Yes I have also retired my K1 before it drives me nuts and gone back to using my Mio c510 along side my built in sat nav. |
