NavCore 9 hasn't been officially released for the x40 models hence TT Home doesn't offer it. |

You can install Navcore 9 to a 940 BUT you need to consider the following prior to doing so:
The software hasn't been released for your hardware so certain functions might not work correctly (HD Traffic/ mp3 player/ FM Tx etc)
Also a new Navcore will probably increment the boot loader which is something even a full Windows Explorer backup cannot restore and could brick the device so you are treading on rather thin ice.
If you still feel happy to install whatever you have downloaded extract the download to the memory card using Winrar, delete the ttsystem file from the root of the card (this prevents the boot loader from being clocked) then insert the card to the PND - It might work or you might find certain parts don't work, if I were you I would wait for TomTom to release a true Navcore 9 build for the device which should be in the pipeline - Mike |

Whats the big deal with Navcore 9?
All you get is Eco Routes (really useful - NOT) and animated menu transitions that appear like a PowerPoint presentation on steroids further slowing the device down.
Navcore updates have always been free, I have no idea if/ when N9 might be made available for the x40 range although it would be the next logical step in the devices development - Mike |

I've played with Navcore 9 on x40 and I concur with Mike; it's not designed for x40's and some bits don't work; specifically it doesn't go into standby properly and so drains the battery even when 'off', and Live Services only work sporadically. For me it wasn't worth the trouble and I reverted to Navcore 8. |

I only require the 'change vehicle profile', when driving 44ton artics, nearly 60ft in lenth and over 16ft high, believe me, you do not want to be 'guessing' on a car route ! Anything that gives me the ability to change to truck mode, makes things a lot easier when following a sat nav when driving such a huge vehicle. Cheers |

Installing v9 does not automatically give you access to the vehicle profiles!
Some versions you may find around *do* have the menu to choose them, some don't.
But to get any benefit from them you also need the special "truck" version of the maps, and TT won't sell it to you. |

Free.... no.
There's THIS
....but it only works on the GO520/GO530/GO720/GO730/GO920/GO930 and GO7000.
I think TT are missing a huge market in aftersales solutions for Caravanners/Motorhomes/truck drivers who have other models. |

A 940 loaded with the Fiat Blue Me Navcore 9 is what you want as this does offer different routes depending upon vehicle type using the standard map, have a look at This
I would suggest you get a 4GB MicroSD card for the software to go on along with a map, once you have got the memory card we can point you in the direction of installing it - Mike |

Using Navcore 9 on a x40 is very likely to cause issues with the Live Services. The Live Services are not very reliable and you will also get to places where there is no mobile signal. Version 9 software on a x40 appears to give up when it cannot talk to the server and disable itself. You then need to reboot or switch in and out of flight mode to kick start the live services again. Version 8 software will usually retry to establish a connection when lost.
There are also some standby issues and it appears that if you do not clear the route before powering down, the unit does not fully go into standby and the battery will discharge overnight. Putting into flight mode may also help prevent this from happening.
I much prefer the Navcore 9 interface, one of the features I like is the ability to disable voice navigation instructions without disabling sound altogether, so you get your traffic updates and speed camera warnings. I also like the live route summary screen.
However after using Navcore 9 for several months I have reverted to Navcore 8, mainly for the Live Services issues. _________________ Drivelux |

Is the Fiat Blue Me system available for purchase, or does it only work with built in satnav supplied with Fiat cars?
