Is there another way to check the firmware version from a laptop?
I am unable to see the version using Crux_view when Fortuna is in XT mode. I am able to see a version when in ST mode. It shows:
VER 213000000. It does not look right to me.
Do I have to check the version in XT or ST mode?
The GPS receiver I have is actually Belkin F8T051. I assume it is the same as Fortuna clip-on receiver. Is it correct?
Can I update the firmware with the one from fortuna web site then? Has anyone done this with Belkin F8T051?
Thanks. |

Folks
We are also having problems identifying the firmware version. Have tried Crux and failed.
Purchased ClipOn and 2210 in May and can get 5-8 sats indoors. Sat led goes from red to green in both ST and XT. The manual (joke) has stickers over the led lights spec and the accuracy spec, ie. a change.
Is there another utility which an idiot can use?
The ClipOn is great when Geocaching as it can be clipped to Dogs collar and he is told to stay in a clearing while I forage around in dense bush!
Thanks

Hi Man&dog
Isn't that role reversal!! Aren't you supposed to stand still while your dog goes forages around in the bushes? :D |

Your right but Dog has not mastered 'soft resetting' yet! Working on it.
What about the question I posed?

Man&Dog,
If you read my posts in this thread you will see that I too could not see the firmware version. In fact I tried Crux View, CE Monitor and GPStweak, nothing worked form me. I wanted to see the version before the upgrade and then check it after. In the end I just went ahead and did the upgrade as per the book making sure I was in XT mode and low and behold there was the firmware version.
I can only conclude that the firmware version was not available for v1 Xtrac, but it is included in the flashpack provided in the upgrade to v2.
Since you can't see the version you might think from what I've said that you are still using v1. But when I was at v1 the middle LED was only green when it had a fix in ST mode. When the unit got a fix in XT the middle LED stayed orange. Now having upgraded to v2 the middle LED goes Green when the unit gets a fix for both ST and XT. You seem to have this already, so perhaps you are at v2 already??
... of course teaching you dog to soft rest will be impossible unless he's a Setter of some variety. ha ha |

Well, I for one have gone back to using ST mode. I have been experiencing occasional lockups and dropouts using XTv2 on the road, but ST mode is working fine. Shame, as XT definitely pulls in much more sat locks and with no lag, seemed like a great solution. Oh well.

Guys,
Once again is Belkin F8T051 is exactly the same as Fortuna? And is it safe (as much as it can be) to apply new Fortuna firmware to Belkin receiver? Will it wipe out Belkin's ID and make it unrecognizible by the computer?
Thanks. |

Sorry for your inconvenience.

Guess who didn't buy a Clip-On? Bummer. |

I beleive there is Belkin unit that is the same as the Fortuna Clip-on. If you go to:
www.gpspassion.com
You will see in one of their forums that some Belkin owners have upgraded their units using the Flash Pack from Fortuna. Ideally you should contact Belkin to make sure of compatibility, but failing that teh gpspassion forum may give you enough confidence to go ahead and upgrade.
Don't know about the ID. But make sure you have the unit in XT mode before you upgrade otherwise it will only be recognised by the bin (trash can)
Good Luck |

JLW...
"Foobar," or more accurately "fubar," is an acronym meaning "fouled up beyond all repair." There is a euphemism inserted, so you insert the appropriate word. |

I'll amend that by saying "Never flash anything or run Norton Ghost while tired or after drinking too many beers." |

Hi Folks
Tried reflashing my ClipOn yesterday, exactly to the instructions.
All goes well until I hit the 'execute' button. The reflashing window pops up
and almost instantly the BT connection is lost. Eventually I get a ,Time Out pop up.
At this point ClipOn does not work in XT mode. By switching to ST and waiting about 4 minutes I get a fix outside. By switching back to XT and waiting the same time I get a fix. In fact last night a 11 sat fix indoors.
Any ideas why the reflashing fails.

My experience is the same as Man & Dog. I establish the link and hit execute and eventually get a timed out message. I have tried loading the update from C-drive and A-drive with no difference. |
