I have just bought a Nuvi 860 which was an ex demo. Only problem is it is stuck in Simulator mode. I have accessed the settings and tried to turn if off but it just restes to Simulator mode on and in 2 mins it cycles through the 860 Demo video.
How can I turn the Shop Demo off! Plz help.
I have bought it new from the shop - I could take it back but it is the most comprehensive GPS for the price. I couldn`t get another for any where near te same price. |

Hi there
from which shop did you buy it if you are allowed to say? If it is stuck on simulator mode I would hazzard a guess that the shop has done this.
May I suggest that you take it back to the shop and ask them to fix it as they would have tweaked it. I have never heard of a 860 demo video on a Nuvi 860 so I don't know how they managed to do that.
I have had a quick look at my Nuvi and am stumped as well.

Hi,
Is there an SD card in the unit? If there is, it could be that the demo programme is on that and removing it may solve your problem. If not then I agree that it should go back for help/refund. I have seen the demo video on display units, but AFAIK it is not a part of retail units. |

I never thought of the SD card, you learn something new every day. |

Looking around it appears there maybe a DEMO folder on the unit which needs to be removed.
If there is a folder with that name on the unit then it might be worth renaming or moving it to a PC and restarting the unit.
However please note this advise is NOT confirmed and you carry out that instruction at your own risk. Having said that i've never seen a DEMO folder on a Garmin unit if there is one it's probably safe to delete. |

Hi The Rudd - I have assumed from your last post that everything is ok now. But if it isn't there is another, unwelcome, possibility. Some units are supplied to retailers specifically as demo units, and do not have the full software on them. Be prepared! _________________ David

There was a folder called DEMO and I deleted it. IT seems there is an auto run for the DEMO programe, if that doesn`t exist then the unit runs in normal mode, - After that the unit worked perfectly, Thanx guys for your assistance. (Verified by Garmin support) THX |
