Help!
Can anybody help with elevation data downloaded from the Memory Map Digital Map Store (DMS).
I have downloaded some OS 1:50,000 maps without any problems. The elevation data does not download with the maps. I searched the memory map site and found an elevation data file for the whole of Europe. I downloaded this and appeared to have elevation data.
However, the heights are way out. For example if I set a waypoint at the 338m spotheight at the top of Whinlatter pass in the lakes it is reported at an elevation of over 1,600ft!
Have I downloaded the wrong file or perhaps I have installed it wrongly.
Thanks,
Dave |

I can't help with the Digital Map Shop problem but I can tell you about the Europe elevation data file: that is not what you want: the data is extremely coarse and effectively useless for british mapping, as you discovered. The proper elevation data file for just mainland UK is many times bigger than that Europe elevation file.
Are you supposed to get elevation data with a digital map download?. I've never used the DMS myself. |

I just discovered that you can download the elevation data file from this link.
Copy this file to your maps folder and Refresh Map List. |

GeoffC,
Sorted - Thanks very much for your help.
Dave
PS. I've noticed an intriguing bug related to this. Now that I have imported the correct elevation data the elevation profile is correct. However, the total ascent on a route that I had created is still showing the figure from the incorrect elevation data file even although the actual profile graph has corrected to the new data. Not the end of the world I guess at worst I will just have to delete and re-create that route.
Thanks again. |
