Private Pilots now have access to an affordable touch screen device loaded with a CAA approved chart which incorporates a definitive controlled airspace database.
The Airspace Awareness Device - AWARE has been designed by the National Air Traffic Service (NATS) and aviation satnav outfit Airbox and offers, for the first time, a low cost 4This new device, quite unlike anything else currently available, provides a low cost moving map display using a 4.3" backlit sunlight readable screen and contains the latest UK ICAO 1:500,000 chart with free chart updates!

Having used gliding navigation programs for some years on PDAs and PNAs, I would point out that the suction mounts as shown and supplied are not a good idea if you go high. They can drop off due to the decreasing air pressure, and if re-attached at height, there is a risk of cracking perspex windscreens as you descend. Not a problem though if you only go up to 2/3000 ft.

Did you get a chance to check the accuracy of the altimeter reading? In my experience (microlighting) the height given was often a bit iffy. |
