iPhone Dash Mount Options?

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you'll be able to help me out!

I'm struggling to find a product or combination of products that suit my needs for my iPhone 3GS. Can any of you recommend me some products that have the following features:

- Able to be directly wired into the car for both power and aux in (this should be fine with any product).
- Powers iPhone.
- Allows iPod to play through aux in.
- Allows iPhone calls to output sound through aux in.
- Possibly includes an external mic for phone calls.
- Allows GPS apps to play sound via aux in.
- Possibly includes standalone GPS chip (TomTom only?).
- Allows removal leaving audio and power cables so that I can move the cradle to my other car and connect to the wired in cables in that car.
- Dash mounted for stability and ease of hiding when the car is parked.

Is there any product that fulfills all of these criteria? Or combination of different products? I just hope that things like phone calls through the car stereo aren't impossible with the iPhone.

The installation in my car offers exactly what you are looking for in terms of functionality, but its not all accomplished using the mount. I have a TomTom Car Kit mount fitted to a Brodit addaptor which in turn is attached to a Brodit Pro-Clip to suit the car:





The power cable is fed (hidden) through the air vent but I don't use the audio output socket from either the TomTom mount or the iPhone as I prefer the Bluetooth solution. The sound is fed via Bluetooth in to the cars system using a device called iO-Play which connects to the back of the stereo details of which can be found in This Thread, it does help if the car stereo uses standard ISO connectors but if not addaptors are easy to obtain from Halfords or e-Bay.

It does use an external microphone, the wiring for this is also hidden as are the Bluetooth receiver and power amp box, very easy to fit and provides a great solution for hands free in the car as the sound goes via the cars speakers. Possibly over the top for what you are looking at but it does tick all the boxes on the "wish list"

take a look at one of these works for me..

I us a belkin tunebase FM this has aux out and FM, works spot on for IPod music and TomTom Copilot etc.
Hands free it uses the IPhone mic so depending on position may not be so good. but I use the radio Bluetooth for hands free and in my car its excellent quality...

You can move this from car to car with no cable worries

Amazon have it for £46. No extra GPS though

Another vote for iO PLAY and Brodit. I've just changed cars, and bought another Brodit clip and had another iO PLAY installed. The wife liked the iO PLAY so much that she installed one in her car as well.

For power I have a Griffin PowerJolt when needed.

+1 for the io-play just one tip if you do go for an io-play don't buy if from halfords as they are around £130 each, I bought mine from amazon for £64.

I'm using the Kensington LiquidAux solution for power/aux-in and wireless steering wheel mounted remote.

As for a cradle, I prefer Arkon's simple iPhone cradle. This could be affixed to a Brodit ProCliop or any of Arkon's mounting solutions.

So it looks like I'll be buying the following:

1x TomTom cradle
2x Brodit mounting system, one for each car
1x cheap mini USB 90 degree cable (another comes with the TomTom mount)
2x audio cables with 3.5mm jacks

I don't think I need the IO Play, but the external mic would be good. What would happen if you plugged in an external mic into the phone's 3.5mm socket and used the TomTom's 3.5mm socket for the line out?

If that worked I could buy a couple of noise cancelling mics that you would normally use with headphones and just wire them into the headlining of the car...

You might find the Brodit MoveClip useful in this setup. It allows you to move the whole mount between cars without using a screwdriver.

Move clip is ideal, use them in all my installs and the smaller one is more than man enough for the job.

One Move clip kit gives you one male clip (for the Brodit adapter) and two female clips, one for each car.

Also has added advantage of avoiding need to use screws.

Just downloaded the excellent CamerAlert, must say it's a superb looking app and i can't wait to try it out later in the car, well done for all the work you must have put in to it.

Now i need a car mount for my iphone to use it, not the most tech person so could you tell me if i can use the tomtom car kit with the CamerAlert app without the tomtom nav app installed ?

Or any other products you could recomend ?
