|
|
Hi I have been struggling with this for a few days now and can't seem to get this to work. I want to get my Nuvi to provide voice alerts of the speed cameras instead of the standard Garmin "bong".
I have downloaded the mp3 files together with the PGPS camera database, have put the mp3 files in the same folder and used poi loader which successfully loads the poi's. Tested it near a speed camera and no voice, just the usual "bong" and screen warning. Tried all sorts of combinations with poi loader and nothing seems to work. Could it be that voice alerts are not aloud with the 1240? Does anyone know. |

Does that model have an mp3 player?
I believe that is a pre-requisite....
There's a work-round for units which can't (using wav files) on the download page HERE, which might work for you. |

Yes I noticed this, but the link doesnt appear to work. Just reports a 405 File Missing message. I have tried converting the files to Wav format but poi loader doesn't like them. |

Make sure you have the latest version of POILoader and the files are in 44KHz, Mono format |

Have investigated further and looks like I needed a program called sox.exe copyin into the c:\garmin folder on my PC. I have run poi loader again and now the wav files have been accepted ok. Hopefully the alerts will work now. Thanks for the help. |

It's the link on that page to the old version of POILoader that doesn't work.

So the PGPSW instructions need updating. |

And perhaps the instructions could mention the possible problem of missing sox.exe and needing to be added (if they don't mention it already, of course) - I've seen a few mentions of this problem on the site from time to time and it usually seems to get resolved almost by tedious trial and error. _________________ David

POI Loader 2.5.4 works just fine for me with my wav files every week.
(I load them to an SD card in a card reader, for use on my 255WT).
NB the official POI Loader site is here
Version 2.5.4 is the latest according to the Garmin site, despite the (spurious?) date of 9 Jan 2010 against Version 2.5.3 on the Perry site.
