Just seen this on the TomTom support site:

What's new in TomTom Navigator 4.12 for palmOne ?

In our ongoing efforts to improve TomTom Navigator for palmOne, we are proud to present the free update to version 4.12. Enhanced since version 4.00, this new version offers:

The Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska and Canada maps are unlocked and can be now used by owners of the USA maps for TomTom Navigator for palmOne

A much faster and therefore improved GPS discovery

Automatically tries to connect to the Holux GPS device when “Other GPS” is selected

Tomtom clearly shows on their site what the upgrades do, But so far I have been able to download the upgrade and run it, but it will not upgrade my software!! Sad
Has anyone else had success with this or any other upgrade?

I had similar problems and sent TomTom tech support the following messge:

Have just tried to install your 4.12 update to my palm T3 (version 4.1
with GB maps). Everything went smoothly until the stage before sync when
my palm quick install screen displayed with a yellow triangle and
exclamation mark next to PROGRAM and likewise for start.prc, both said
'file not found' in the destination column. And of course wouldn't sync.
I could manually sync the 'start.prc' file as I can see this in the
TomTom directory, but not the program file. Where is this? Can I
manually install/sync or is it a software problem / can you update the
downloadable?

They replied with the following suggestion:

There is a trick to installing this;

Please ensure that the TT SD card is installed when installing the
update.

installation guide

Download the zip OR the exe file onto your PC and save it on your
Desktop
If you downloaded the exe file, extract the file palm_ttnav4100.exe
(right mouse click > extract here)
If you downloaded the zip file, extract the file palm_ttnav4100.zip
(right mouse click > extract here)
Double click the Setup.exe file which now appears on your Desktop
Stop the TomTom Installation programme which start up, by clicking on
the X in the right bottom corner
Now double click the folder ‘palmos’ on your desktop
Then double click the folder ‘starter’
Then double click the ‘start’ file in order to include it into the Palm
Quick Installer.
When it’s included, please make sure it appears in the Memory card
screen. If not, drag and drop it from handheld to memory card
HotSync your PDA with your PC

We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Haven't had a chance to try this for myself yet though...

It installed fine on mine - the TT installer left open the Palm Installer app with start.prc added - so I closed it and then Hotsync worked fine.

I see 4.12 now gives you the ability to change colour schemes and use a smaller/larger keyboard (when entering an address). Not earth shattering improvements, but at least s/w updates are being released.

Another alternative for the istallation.

If you have an SD card reader you could just copy the files to the SD card. A little less automatic, but this is the way we update our pre-release testing software.

Ok I see your point about doing the update via a card reader, which
i do have.
But the file I d/loaded from tomtom is setup.exe, how do I find all the seperate files to transfer to my card ?

I had exactly the same problem - I couldn't install 4.10 either

I've done some investigation and it seems that TomToms installer has a bug with paths that have spaces in them.... like, Documents ans Settings
exactly where they tell you to put the program!

You can solve the problem in a couple of ways

Firstly ensure that you have a card with TomTom navigator maps on UNLOCKED (i.e write enabled) in the SD slot

1. Unzip the update and ensure that it's path contains no spaces
e.g. Put it on C:\palm_ttnav4120_eur

then run as directed

2. Copy the files manually...
Unzip the update to a suitable directory and run Setup.exe
Don't worry about hotsyncing

The update consists of 5 files

Start.prc is located in the directory
palm_ttnav4120_eur\palmos\starter

The other 3 files are located in navigator.cab in the following directory
palm_ttnav4120_eur\palmos

Use a cabinet file extractor to expand this archive
(e.g. the freeware Zipnall compression program)
you should get the following files

0000data.003
000start.001
00munich.002
NAVIGA~1.000

The navigator.ini file contains the correct file names for these

File000=setup.dat
File001=start.prc
File002=Munich.bin
File003=data.chk

so rename as follows

rename 0000data.003 to data.chk
rename 000start.001 to start.prc
rename 00munich.002 to Munich.bin
rename NAVIGA~1.000 to setup.dat

notice that Start.prc is also contained in here.. we don't need it since we already have the file

Make a backup copy of the existing Munich.bin, setup.dat, & data.chk files in the TomTom directory on your SD card

To Upgrade just copy Munich.bin, setup.dat, & data.chk to the TomTom directory on your SD card overwriting the old files

Phew!

As you can see it's easier to use the TomTom upgrade process, but I find it's always usefull to know whats going on - just in case....

Hope this of use to someone

Dave
