hi all
I have a TomTom Xl IQ routes model and have a RDS / TMC cable attached to it.
However today after powering up the device and selecting a recent destination it did not see the RDS / TMC device.. ( no side bar )
Powered off and on several times but alas nothing.
Normally i dont touch the cables..Its always connected and never gets removed from the car...
So im in the dark as to what could be wrong....Help anybody ?

Start by checking the power to the ciggy socket is live and that the charger plug is fully home in the ciggy socket, the Mini USB style receiver will only work if there is power to it, the device on the other hand can run off its battery for a short period but the XL IQ cannot supply power to the RDS unit - Mike |

Reset the device by pressing and holding the on/ off button until the device re-starts, you won't loose any information or settings trying this - Mike |

Typically it takes around 20 seconds holding the on/ off switch then you will hear a drum roll as the device re-boots, at this point release the button, you can do this with the device in the house as it doesn't need to be plugged in to the car - Mike |

Just drove back from a Friends house in Kettering and MY RDS/TMC wasn't working either...
Hmmmm, Perhaps TT are having problems...
-edit-
Just tried Mike's suggestion, and it's back working.... _________________ XL LIVE IQ Routes (Europe)

Glad to hear it, just remember the first sign of something not working correctly on the device and try the reset before doing anything else at all as it often fixes the issue.
RDS-TMC is nothing to do with the other issue you might be reading about, the lack of Live services, these two systems are nothing to do with each other. RDS is supplied via the FM Radio network which sends out data supplied by a company called iTIS Holdings, if the RDS unit isn't seen by the TomTom device first of all ensure the device has power (the mini USB receivers don't work without power applied), secondly try the device reset after that post on the forum as there are other reasons why it can packup from time to time especially after map updates - Mike |

thanks i appreciate that.
It did a update the other day and installed a newer application.....pretty sure that the RDS worked after that...
So any idea as to what stopped it working in the first place or is it just one of those RESET things ?
I also got a TomTom XL LIVE IQ routes device....but that has been pretty bad of late and i havent renewed the sub after the 3 months trial..
I hear its getting better...but for 8 quid a month it should be working all the time... |

If you are not 100% sure it worked after this......
It is a safe bet this is what caused it not to work
Obviously if you are pretty sure it worked then I may be wrong |

Hi all
I have the same problem on my tt720
The only way I get it to reconnect is to remove the RDS / TMC cable (jack plug type) turn off tt720 and turn back on or do a reset.
I have even got a new rds-tmc cable. Still the same.

Hi
Just a point of interest: It is currently planned under the "Digital Britain" proposals that all FM radio stations will be off the air and replaced by Digital or "micro" local stations by 2015.
How is the RDS-TMC service planned to be supplied after this?
