Hi all, i need some help with my 910. I noticed a few weeks ago that the unit was showing a low battery warning despite being on the cradle. I thought it wasn't seated right, took it off and reseated it which seemed to do the trick.
Just before christmas i left the unit switched on whilst stored in the car for a couple of days.
I have noticed that every time i switch it on it has to reload all the MP3's and the clock needs to be reset and the unit is showing poor gps signal and cant find any satellites.
The unit still plays my MP3's through the stereo once it has booted and loaded them.
I have donr a factory reset, formatted the drive and reinstalled the backup from my PC but still no joy.
Could it be the battery inside has died and therefore not holding sufficient charge to operate the device correctly?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

That does sound like your 910's battery is shot, they are not too easy to change either as the battery was the first thing they fitted when it was built - Mike |

A 'how to' guide was offered by Mike in this thread but heed Mike's warning........ _________________ David |

I'm not too bad with a torx drive and it's only£10 for a battery here in the UK, so its got to be worth a try! With the help of the excellent visual guide from Mike, kindly pointed out by dhn, I'm confident of a good result.
Besides, If it does go pete tong its a good excuse to buy a new unit.
Thanks guys |

Go for taking the screen out and the HDD, I appreciate it makes the job much larger but its far easier to get the battery out this way, if its an early 910 then you can get the battery out without removing screen/ HDD but if its a later build unit you have to take the extra steps - Mike |

Reading the post that shows the removal of the battery he goes on to suggest that there may be two chassis for the 910. I'm not sure but i think this link Click Here may show the proceedure for the other one.[/url] |

Tenorplayer you are indeed a gent, and thank you for the link.
Better to try every non invasive option first.
I have a spare car charger so will swap them tonight and see what gives.
I noticed in some of the posts that they mention checking the status of the battery. Could someone tell me how this is done because I'm a dufus and don't know how to.... |

touch the satellite strength meter on the bottom right of your main screen and on the top right of the next screen(just under the time) you will see a, hopefully, solid green bar indicating fully charged. If it is a hollow rectangle then the battery is flat. When the sat nav is in the cradle and connected to the power, you will see a green light on the face of the device. Do NOT assume this to mean it is charging. Look under the battery meter for the word "charging". If not present then jiggle the device in the mount until (hopefully) it appears. If it does , then leave it overnight to ensure a good recharge Good luck
PS... When the battery is fully charged, the word "charging will not be present. |

Thanks Tenorplayer. Just an update on this thread. The battery shows fully charged whilst in the cradle but the unit still can't find any satellites and does a full reboot again on sart up.
I fear surgery is required.
I shall change the battery and see how we go from there. I'll keep you posted |

It can take some time to lock onto the satellites if it hasn't "seen" them for a time. Try having it powered up and in good view of the sky for 15-20 mins.
On the satellite view screen (tap the bottom right as before then tap the long window at the side which includes the "charging" indicator), are there any satellites showing at all? If there are some grey lines/numbers in the circle, it just needs more time to get the proper lock.
It's worth checking before breaking out the screwdrivers and wallet. _________________ Gerry

Thanks for the advice. Cant remember if there was anything showing last time i looked. My drive to work in the morning will be about 45 minutes to an hour so I'll try it then and see what gives. |

It needs to be static after a long lay off. leave it by your (house)window for a while. Changing position, even on a perfect device can thwart the initial lock on |

Thanks again tenorplayer.
The surgery went well this morning, fairly straight forward provided you’re careful. Still seems to have the same symptoms though, so I’ve left it in the vehicle with a clear view of the sky and I’ll see what happens.
Just to confirm the Satellite display shows nothing at all and the status simply says
‘Poor GPS Reception’.................No Sh*t!!
I'm not optimistic.
Mike, as a man in the know about such matters, if I do have to undergo open wallet surgery, is the 940 a good replacement for this unit? Main use for mine is Basic GPS use, with all my Byways, Fords and water splashes on it. I do store a lot of MP3’s and play them through my Aux into my stereo? |
