|
|
One of the reasons I bought my 940 was for the Live features, particularly traffic and Google Search (see DennisN's comments here).
Over the last two days I've been doing a lot of driving and had the need to use Google Search but found it unavailable, all I get is the meaningless 'server error, try again later' message; I don't get an error code. I checked the other live services and all subscriptions are valid (till Feb 2010) and the others, petrol, traffic & weather work fine. Google Search still isn't working today.
I should add that I had a week's holiday in Northern Ireland and it worked fine the whole week.
So my questions are :-
1) I anyone else having a problem or is it just me ?
2) Is there a fix ?

Yep same problem for me with Google yesterday morning and again this morning, though was working fine yesterday afternoon.
Also the traffic failed to connect a few times this morning, but connected and worked as normal in the end.

Yes, had exactly the same problem yesterday (and Sunday) when I was trying to google a destination.
Live traffic worked OK though throughout the 175 mile round trip |

To be fair, that's not meaningless... It means there's an error with their server and suggests trying later!
Still annoying, but it *does* make sense. |

My error is "Unable to establish a wireless data connection". Considering I just bought 12 months Live services (now valid to 13th Dec 2010) that's pretty displeasing. I have raised a support question with TomTom as this was my main reason for buying. _________________ Dennis

HD traffic for me was not working this morning at around 10am this morning when I turned my device on. Began working again around 10.15am.
Did not try any other LIVE services!

Although I can still access HD Traffic, I have been unable to use Google Search on my Go 550 for 3 days now. I keep getting a red screen and the message "Could not establish a wireless data connection".
I am still waiting to hear from TomTom Customer Services. |

I've also had the red screen message "could not establish wireless data connection" yesterday and today. Today I tried resetting (holding on/off down for 15 seconds) and then tried again. It connected immediately. Maybe coincidence, but it could be a temporary fix for you guys with problems. |

Seems to work for me though I had to do the longer hold till I get the hardware screen). It's currently working when I stand outside, will see if it works from my internal car mount....
Update....
Surprise suprise I tried it again this morning and I get the "could not establish wireless data connection". Time for a support call :-(
Thanks. |

Hi Guys,
I am getting the same thing, it really is annoying, as I really like the google live search. All the other live services work but not that. I wonder why it cannot establish a wireless connection on google but can on the others Hmmmm.
Anyone had a response from TT yet?

I'm pretty sure that Google search depends on a mobile phone connection - not a satellite one - so have you checked you can get a decent signal on your phone from the same place and at the same time as you are trying to get to it from your TT?
(But I may get shot down by one of the teccies!) |

Yes, I have and I simply can't be bothered to act on it - I forgot to tell them I don't RTFM so there's no point sending me one! (I'll wait until Mike sees this and tells me what to do!) As for mobile phone connection, I have three phones all with a connection, including my main one on Vodafone.
Quote: | Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Care
The reference number for your query is 091216-005388.
I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulty with your live services. Is it only the Google Local Search; do all other services work?
To help me investigate, please do the following:-
STEP 1 Charge your device up.
- Charge your TomTom up for a minimum of 4 hours. A low battery can cause the HD Services to not function properly.
STEP 2 Reset your TomTom device
- Reset your device to factory settings via the Change Preferences Menu
- After resetting your device, you will need to set up your start-up preferences again.
- Reset your device for 30 seconds, see http://www.tomtom.com/6965 in how to do this.
- Switch your device back on.
- Go through the Setup of your device. Do not enter any user account details at this point.
STEP 3 Update your device
- Connect your device to TomTom Home
- Click on Update my Go/XL
- If you see a application update, please ensure this is selected, and then click on ‘Update and install’.
- Once complete, switch the device off, disconnect the TomTom from the computer and switch it back on.
- Repeat Step 3 until there are no further program application updates
STEP 4 Obtain a GPS Signal Outside
- Take your navigation device outside and make sure you have a GPS signal.
STEP 5 Check the Network Status
- In the Bottom Right hand corner of the main map screen, tap onto the Signal Strength Indicator screen. You will see the version number
- Tap onto the version number, you will see the version screen, and at the bottom of the screen tap onto the 'Network' button.
- You should see your network status here
- Check network status till shown status 'CONNECTED'
- If the status is “connected”, you should be receiving traffic information. Please note that it can take up to 10-20 minutes for the TomTom to get a traffic update. This is because the device has been reset and/or you have installed an update.
- In the main navigation screen wait up to 20 mins until Traffic bar displays blue (Receiving HD Traffic)
- Go to Main Menu - TomTom Services - tap on the service you would like to update on your device
If you are not receiving HD traffic information, or the status is ‘Not connected”, then please do the following:-
Please provide us with the following information:-
1) NETWORK STATUS:-
On the network status screen, you will find the following information:-
STATUS:
SIM ID:
IMEI:
2) TOMTOM HOME SYSTEM INFORMATION:-
- Connect your device to the computer and switch it on
- Open TomTom Home
- In TomTom Home click on 'Help - System Information'.
Once you have sent me this information, I will escalate your case to our 2nd line team for investigation.
With Kind Regards
Lorna R
