|

Just updated Copilot and seen that Traffic is available for £19.99. Seems a bit steep to me, esppecially as US traffic is only £11.99. Has anybody tried it? Would welcome any feedback before taking the plunge.

I'm going to hang fire for Navigon, but how do you buy this within CoPilot? I couldn't spot an obvious way, but probably missed something. |

In settings there's a Copilot Store option. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

I have but havn't had the chance to try it out yet. Lot cheaper than £7.50 per month for HD traffic ! _________________ IPhone 6s 128GB, Samsung S7 edge, Apps Tomtom W.europe,Tomtom US +Canada,

Anyone know how they source their traffic data? Is it user driven, like Navigon and TomTom's HD Traffic, or something else? |

Well I bought it for a laugh, although not tried it in anger yet.
I got a message that the purchase was successful, but when I went back to the main screen Traffic was not enabled. I restarted CoPilot and it was still greyed out, and then suddenly a "Purchase Successful" screen appeared.
By default it disables the ability to use the data connection, so I had to enable it. Then you can set the look ahead distance on your route, and also the radius. You can also say whether you want verbal alerts.
I set work as a destination and immediately got a traffic incident on the M3 which is the contraflow currently in place. You see this in a similar way to TomTom's Traffic system i.e. a bar on the righthand side of the 3D map screen. If you select this bar it opens another screen and shows detail of the incident(s). You can then select the incident(s) to see more detail again, including the distance to it, exactly where it is, and what the incident is. You can also view a 2D map to see where the incident is.
Hopefully Monday morning on the M3/M25 should be a reasonable test. As with any traffic service, accuracy is paramount.
Note that the CoPilot Store isn't actually under settings, but the main menu. |

SSR, it will be interesting to see if you get an option to detour around traffic. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Indeed! Unlike TomTom on other devices with traffic, I don't remember seeing a reroute option.
I also use the so-so good TrafficTV on the iPhone, so can compare and contrast. |

So tried it on the way into work this morning.
Firstly it shows a contraflow where there is no contraflow any more on the M3.
Secondly it did not show traffic issues on the M3, whereas TrafficTV did briefly show significantly reduced (20mph) speeds.
So strike 1... |

I've toyed with the idea of getting traffic but if there is no reroute option I just dont see the point, shame that. |

FYI it does have a traffic detour option. When viewing the traffic info, click the icon with the barrier on it. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Ah well spotted! I assumed it would be in settings, similar to TomTom.
The second test was a half failure. Friday night traffic back home, including the M25 and M3. TrafficTV was showing 10-15mph on the M25 (which it was), which CoPilot did not show. CoPilot did show slow traffic on the M3 though, with average speeds, following an accident. |

So currently at a strike and a half.
Test three. Both the journey to and from work this morning were severly congested. TrafficTV was showing sub 20mph speed limits for various bits of the M3, yet CoPilot's traffic system wasn't showing anything except for the non-existent contraflow.
(I tried the system on Monday morning, but couldn't connect to their traffic server)
Strike two and a half. |
