Tesco is to sell iphone
Hot off the press is news that Tesco have joined in on the iPhone war here in the UK. On the Tesco Direct website confirmation of their move has already been made. It is suggested they will do both the 3G and the 3GS but nothing as yet on pricings.
It is also to be noted that this is a joint partnership with O2 so we could speculate that the rates will stay the same but if tesco history of price slashing is anything to go by we may see them set a precedent for Orange and Vodafone to follow.
Let the wars begin?
Should be in before Christmas.

That what everyone said when it was announced Orange would be selling it. I'll wait until prices are announced before making assumptions. |

Tesco direct
Tescos have released their iPhone tarrifs and on first glance don't look too great but in comparison with the comparable offers from Orange ARE accually considerably cheaper.
Downside is for the cheapest plan you will have to fork out for the phone upfront.
Upside is you will only be locked to a 12 month plan.
Orange will set you back £39.61 a month for the 18month term inc. 3gs 16Gb phone.
Tesco will be £37.70 if kept for 18 months inc. 3gs 16Gb phone.
The main difference being £20 or £30 a month after initial purchase.
But if you could justify the 24 month contract then it's more than half price with a free handset.
Lets hope for more offers in the new year! _________________ Dom

The Orange free handset offer is for a 3g @ £29.36 for 24 months as per Orange website which for the same term would be exactly 11p dearer than Tescos. Ooooh! _________________ Dom

Basically it's the cost of the phone plus the contract cost over the time you're expecting to keep it, or at least the length of the contract you're tied in for. Really that's the whole cost of the phone, and what should be quoted. It's amazing how much that whole life cost can change depending on tariff! |
