|
|
Hi.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 updated maps and recent firmware upgrade, but it can't find the satellites through the windscreen, indoors it's fine just the damn Citroen car.
Also have a Navman N40i, exactly the same problem, works fine except in the Citroen. Have tried them both at the top of the screen and all manner of places but no go.
Anyone know of a sat nav that actually works in a Citroen? |

The car will be fitted with an Athermic windscreen that is blocking the GPS signals, one idea is to use an external aerial such as This form Maplins which plugs in to the socket on the side of the flip out GPS aerial on the Nuvi. Put the aerial in front of the rear view mirror as this area is often left untreated so the signal can get through, or consider a longer cable and put the aerial in the rear window - Mike |

I have a Citroen C5 and my Nuvi 765 works with no trouble with satellites. I don't need to put it anywhere special. (The FM traffic signal is pretty bad though) |

Thanks guys, looks like the older models are no good with modern motors.
Cheapest option will be the external antenna, but I really don't want wires going through the car door.
Decision time yet again, do I change the sat nav or the car? |

I have a C4 and my Nuvi 765 works OK. Previously with my Picasso I had to use one of the aerials described above - I had it bluetacked inside the windscreen (I think that's what mikealder meant) behind the rear view mirror (make sure you get it the right way round) and the wire threaded behind the headlining right down to the satnav - worked a treat |

If your 'older' models have the SiRFII chipset you will find some problems with the athermic windscreens but don't dispair.
My old Mio 168 had SiRFII but worked well, Citroen, provided I did not set up in the car and wait for locks or even worse drive off before I did.
I found the best thing was to stand outside the car and wait until I had a lock on 5 or 6 sats. Then set up in the car with the sucker at the bottom of the screen, centre of the dash, in line with the rear view mirror.
Remember you will be receiving signals through the non coated side and rear windows and once locked on shouldn't have any problems except maybe in some deep valleys or if there are tall buildings all around. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

I would change the car, you know what french build quality is like. Just don't replace it with anything italian.

Yes but there are advantages, save loads on fuel which helps save the planet.
No CO2 emissions for the ten months of the year they are in the garage being repaired. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

You lot just don't like my frog motor, mind you i'm not so keen on it now, had to buy an antenna and stuck it under the rear view mirror.
Garmin now works fine, but what a mess just because the French decide to do something different. |

You should be able to run the aerial cable behind the A pillar trim panel and behind the roof liner which will hide most of the spaghetti mess, any excess cable can then be "lost" under the dash - Mike |
