I tend to agree that all the hardware/docks will be coming down in price, and probably sooner rather than later. I really expect an active dock with gps chipset and speaker to be available in the $60 range within the next 6 months. Just a guess of course. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

Perhaps, but with actual hardware costs at well under $15 according to estimates I've seen (except for molding costs on the mount itself, guessing maybe $5 or 6$ depending on volume), if someone could avoid dealing directly with Apple who wants 30%, I think it's very possible. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

That 30% is for appstore software, not hardware. They may charge a fee for the 'designed for iPhone' or whatever certification but that's it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ah, thanks for the correction Darren. Quite right.
Regardless, with the very low hardware costs associated with building a mount, I still expect to see at least one in the $60 range by early next summer. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

RRPs at launch. But competition always drives prices down. It's a gravitational fact of economics. I bet all of them are streeting at half price by the end of March. |

Indeed, once demand has been proven then hopefully we'll see a raft of options and prices will plummet. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Only if we see competition increase. I'll set a reminder for April next year and we can pop back here and see what the status quo is then _________________ Darren Griffin |

Out of all the kit avaiable to turn my touch into a GPS the Dual Electronics looks the best as it will make my touch a portable GPS system.
But with price an issue (what's new), I think the Tomtom one is the probably the one I'll go for.
Hopefullyit will be released before 14th December so I can use my £8 off voucher that Tomtom emailed me this week.

I see Tomtom have dropped the price 20% already.

No, that is the carkit for the iPod Touch. This is a different model and lacks the BT handsfree functionality. _________________ Darren Griffin |
