I have TTN6 and it runs very well on my HTC Tytn II Windows Mobile PDA phone. I use it for UK/Europe and occasionally I use the Western US map when I'm there.

I'm a bit confused about TTN7 - so here are a few questions:

1. Are there any key advantages in upgrading?

2. Is there an upgrade option or do you have to pay full price?

3. Will I have to buy new maps?

4. Are there any US maps for TTN7?

5. Can I simply stick with TTN6 and upgrade the maps?

Thanks!

Ian

Newer maps and a couple of new additions to the menu such as the HelpMe function, and navigate to Lat/ Long and you can change the cursor to a picture of your own car/ bike as applicable.

£89:99 for Western Europe on MicroSD card
£69:95 for Western & Central Europe by direct download **
£59:99 For Western Europe by direct download **
£39:95 For UK & ROI by direct download **

Only Argentina, Brazil and Mexico are listed for the American region.

No your TTN6 application won't work with any map later than v675, even v675 maps are over two years old and will contain quite a few errors due to road layout alterations.

** Note to use the direct download for the map of your choice you will need the application TomTom Navigator 7 installed to your phone BEFORE purchasing the map, this is where the "fun" starts as I cannot find a download link for the CAB file from the TomTom site, the application was pre-installed on a number of HTC phones from new, did your Tytn-II not have the nav7 application on it when you purchased it? - I would contact TT support on Monday and ask them how they can supply the application so you can purchase a map following the instructions from their own web site! - Mike

Thanks for this! Much appreciated.

My phone is almost two years old now and pre-dates TTN7.

In the past I have upgraded TTN version simply by buying a new map. I was hoping this would be the case again!

I will contact TT about this and let you know the outcome!

Ian,
I would like to upgrade my XDA Orbit to TOMTOM 7 from 6, did you manage to find out if you can do this?

Regards

As there are no USA maps anyway for TTN7 at the moment, there is no incentive to upgrade at all as I would lose the use of my Western USA map and I might be going there in a few months.

It does seem ridiculous that TT want us to pay for the software as well as new maps, when hardware based solutions would most likely be cheaper.

They want you to buy the hardware version, as it cannot be cloned and copied and given to friends. (I am not suggesting you or I would do that, but that is what is in TT's mind).
