|
|
Hi,
First post, so please bear with me.
Bought a new 205wt and finding it very frustrating. I've registered with Garmin, and have attempted to download their POI downloader. I keep getting a message saying the file is not valid.
In frustration (I've ignored the above) and tried to download a number of POIs from your database. I've followed the instructions and attempted (several times) to download a few selected POIs. I get as far as the files being zipped and then a message saying the zip file is corrupt.
Are both isues connected ?
Can anybody enlighten me please as to what I'm doing wrong. I previously had a TomTom, and it was easy to downlod from theirwebsite, and can't believe that downloading POIs should be as difficult as this on Garmin.
Thanks for any advice

Are your POI downloads from here and are they non-camera ones? If so you may find that checking the 'show link' box next to the download button will cure the problem (not sure). _________________ David

What operating system is your computer? And what web browser do you use? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, they're from here and I've ticked the checkbox.
I'm on XP and my ISP is AOL.

Hmm, before you can install the POIs you must have Garmin's POILoader app so we need to get that downloaded and installed first. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks, I thought so.
I've downloaded POIloader to my computer. When I try to open/run it the message I get is;
"Poiloader for Windows_254 is not a valid Win32 application"
?? |

What is the name of the file you have downloaded? It is intended to be installed and run from your PC. You"re not trying to copy to your Garmin are you? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm not trying to download anything from the device.
It appears that the name of the file in my documents folder is actually "POIloaderforwindows_254"
Does this make sense - 'cos it don't for me :-)) |

That's correct, that is the installer file for the latest (2.5.4) version of POILoader from this page/
What happens when you double-click this to install it? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ok, something not right here, could be that the original download is corrupted. Can you delete that file and re-download for me then try again? _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK,
I've deleted the previous file.
Followed Garmin's instructions to the letter and downloaded the app again. Double clicked on the icon from the documents file - and get exactly the same message.
I've emailed Garmin support for help but expect a long, long delay from what I've read on this forum.
Any suggestions now - please:-)) |

I wish I could offer more advice but my PC knowledge is a little rusty and I use a Mac nowadays.
The issue must be with your PC or web connection as the installer works here. _________________ Darren Griffin |
