Hi all
My 4 and a half yo GO 500 is showing its age
both in terms of battery life and its satelite signal capability

therefore i have decided to replace it

i'm after advise please Smile

looking at the newer models i think i have basically narrowed it down to 3
the
940 live
750 live
950 live

i'm just curious what people here would advise

i dont really need the US maps - but would like either the active dock with TMS or a seperate TMS receiver

Any experiences / good prices seen would be helpful
thanks

Steve
Very Happy

There's a good site for comparing prices here, Steve.

If you don't need the US maps, I can't see why two of your choices are the 940 and the 950, both of which have Europe and US mapping.

Why not go for the 740 or 750 which just have Europe maps?
(unless you need the mp3 player which is only in the 940 and 950)

Oops, thought of that as I wrote it, but wasn't 100% sure, then forgot to double check before I hit "send".

You're right none of the x50 models seem to have the mp3 player.
As usual, TomTom never make it clear what features that we've got used to, get left off a particular new model.

cheers for the info guys Smile

will the desktop docking station for the 950 be the same as the one for 940?
or have tomtom taken the opportunity to change the shape a little so we can sell a whole new load of accessory's & add-ons as well

still undecided on which model to go for
are 750/950 EXACTLY the same in every way except for the extra us maps on the 950

Get a 930 or 730.

The x40 series can't be used with GPRS traffic and the HD traffic is a waste of time.

And if there is no mp3 player you know what that means about the FM Tx, yup thats gone AWOL as well.

Yes its the same so you can use any of the x40 range accessories with an x50.

With the 950 you also get the EPT (enhanced positional technology) which lets the device work out where you are while running through tunnels etc. Quite handy on mainland Europe where tunnels with junctions in side them, in the UK its af very little use IMHO - Mike

I have to disagree there. HD is very good. Had a trip on the M6 a few weeks ago with heavy traffic, and the delays were all very well represented. The big benefit is seeing the fluctuations which allows you to know just how bad things are at troublespots, and whether to avoid or not. GPRS traffic was really not worth having as it was untimely. The only fault with HD is road closures, but they are generally signalled on the signs anyway so you can pull up and avoid manually.
