My wife and I have 2 TomTom Go720's, both have batteries with waning capacity. I've been following this thread, ordered the tools and I'm about to order the batteries.

I was wondering if anyone considered using a solvent on the battery adhesive? In the US we have a couple of products I've used on adhesives, Goo Gone and Sticker Lifter, both available at the local hardware store.

Both have worked well to remove adhesive on a variety of surfaces, including plastics and the the paint on a car body, without damaging hte surfaces.

I have had my 920 for 20 mts now and not used a lot but has sat on home cradle most of the time.
My battery is now dead; it simply will not take a charge. Not even for 5 minutes.

When connected to the computer it will connect to TT home but it will not stay on if I chose the option to not to connect to computer but still leaveing it on the cradle.

It will still work fine when plugged in the car charger or when I have it on the (optional) home charger.

I am thinking that I might be willing to try and change the battery but I wonder if I might be better to buy an external rechargeable power source.

Has anyone had any luck using a rechargeable external power source and if so how long will it run and if you have a link to where they can be bought.

Oddly enough I have been having similar thoughts and have recently bought a rechargeable device and an external power source that uses 4 AA cells. The rechargeable device has two Sony Li-Po cells of 1350mAh each, so should provide twice the life of the original battery. The TomTom mounts in the rechargeable device and the whole thing mounts on the original bracket. The combined weight tends to cause the thing to drop over time. The widget powered by the 4 AA cells is cheap and effective and useful if you are away from any charging source. I got them off Ebay, try searching for
