Thank you for your email. The next update is due to be released in the
next couple of months. We do not have a release date just yet but it
will be available shortly.
Many thanks.

I believe this is the standard reply they always send out. I've had it before, word for word. |

This was my standard reply:
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
We are anticipating the release of a mapping update within the next few
weeks to keep your eyes peeled in your account to see when this gets
released. |

my last reply dated 5/10/09
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
Currently we have no confirmed release date for the next mapping release, as soon as it is released you will receive an email from us (as long as you signed up for these emails) and you can download it from your myGarmin account (http://my.garmin.com). As stated on our website, we will release up to 4 updates a year which doesn't mean we will always release 4, we could release anything between 1 - 4 updates in a 12 month period.
If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know. Alternatively you can search for a solution here: http://www.garmin.com/support |

I think that pretty much confirms that the 4 updates a year is more sales pitch than anything else.
Looking at the Garmin maps page again the "up to four" bit is splashed around rather alot, so I guess we can't reallly complain if we don't get any more, despite the inference that is a quarterly update plan.

I doubt they will ever release them in a timely fashion every 3 months on the dot. What the barriers are to this I don't know. How often they receive 'new' data from Navteq could be an issue, but again, only an insider could probably give us the lowdown I suppose.
I bought my current gps on 13th August thinking (optimistically) that as the updates were already late, (North America getting 2010.20 in July) I must get a free update by the middle of October, looks like i'm wrong and will have to stump up the cash if I want an update.
Will it be worth my while? I haven't decided. I'm not expecting to see very new data on the map. The lead time between new developments and roads is fairly lengthy.
I suppose there will be more data for Lane assist which would be good. |

As I stated in my original post, the Swindon bypass was finished Feb/March this year, Navteq had it already on their website in July when I bought my Nuvi, but now three months later no update. I've had to turn off my speed limit widget on my satnav, because it screams at me for breaking the old 40mph speed limit that was there when the bypass was built. |

Hopefully when the new "quarterly" map updates are released Garmin will see sense and make this available to all users who registered since the last update was issued. I timed a purchased on the assumption that I would get an update within 60 days so on the day of release, I for one will be on to Customer Support asking for this to be backdated - hopefully if lots of other new users do the same then Garmin will bow to customer demand. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

Burn 180, I'll let you tell him that. Guillaume doesn't have much of a sense of humor.
Seriously tho, he's still claiming any day now, and another by the end of the year. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

This sounds similar to 'Up to 20 Meg' internet connection from BT and others. But at least they do provide a service, even if it's nowhere near the 'up to' figure |

Perhaps they will put the money they've taken back on your card for your birthday?! More likely than a map release it seems
I have 2 NuMap Subscriptions for my 2 Nuvis, one has had an update back in April, the other (April subscription) has revived not a bean for my £99
Garmin should not be allowed to steal our money like this. I for one will never by another Garmin product, and warn everyone I know about them now
Which is unfortunate
The fact they still advertise the product is a complete rip off

As a mentioned on my previous post "Merry Christmas"
Frankly I don't think would bother with a map update until the end of 2009
so maybe we will have to wait for the new year now |
