What a waste of time. The nuvi locked up four times during a short twenty minute trip. Do garmin actually test their software, or do they leave it up to the users to do it for them?

It's back to ver. 4.8 for me. I'd had no problems with it. - It wasn't broke but I just had to try and fix it! - I wonder if there will be a ver 5.0?

I've just installed 4.90 from 4.80 but don't have the 4.80 install available (I did the 4.80 via WebUpdate) - is the 4.80 install available as a stand alone update should I need to go back ?

If you look back through the forum it's not un-common. There was one update that meant that the unit froze at specific points on the map.

Have they even fixed the Call Home bug yet? Or the Phone Disconnected bug?

My Call Home has been working for me, since at least v4.8

It may have been fine some time before that, but I never tried it having got used to not using it.

As for the Phone disconect bug, I fortunately never suffered from it.

I am disapointed with Garmin, having used them for many, many years. (back when their first line of support was still intelligent and useful) But like the fool I may be, I have just recently bought another newer Nuvi for my wife. I still like the products, despite all the dumbing down.

I have this too on both my 770 & 255 updated to 4.90.
I thought it was due to having too many POI's loaded (I have 250 catagories).

So how do I go back to 4.80 for the 255.
I have downloaded the 4.80 for the 770.

Has anyone tried this software to go back, is it safe?

I have tried removing most of the custom POI's as I found the 770 stuck when the view changed to have a lot of POI's displayed. No joy the unit stuck in the same place on the trip with very few POI's in.

The best Garmin support have come back with is a reset of the unit.
Reluctant to do that as I will loose my favourites. Does any know what file I should back up to retain them?

Has anyone changed their unit back to the earlier issue?

Given the number of people who have suffered from lockups using this version of the firmware (me included), it appears that the answer to the question might well be no!

I for one have gone back to V4.60 and am staying there!

(I don't know if it was 4.70, 4.80 or 4.90 that did it, but one of them also interferes with the FM transmitter volume. I don't actually use the FM transmitter, but it has to be enabled to allow the cradle modification to work. (The cradle mod. allows external audio to be picked up from the cradle, rather than having to plug in a headphone jack. Having that working properly, is far more use than the promise of the "Low battery warning" being sorted out!)

Does anyone know where do I get the software from to go back?
An earlier post points to this link.

I just want to be safe.
In the meantime I have just done a Master Reset as Garmin suggested, having backed up my device. Not too hopeful so will report progress

I like many others suffered continual lock ups. Mine was particularly bad in urban areas.

Taking the software back completely solved the problem.

Been having problems for two weeks since updating my 760T to version 4.9, it was locking up in navigaton mode every 10 minutes making it useless.

Last night I re-installed version 4.8 and today it was like having a new sat-nav.

Do Garmin ever test their updates before releasing them?

I'm having a map freeze issue since 4.90
The mas always seems to freeze when routing from Portsmouth to Whitchurch Hampshire just a few meters after you enter A34 and the GPS tells you to keep left towards whitchurch on the junction with Basingstoke
