Yes, Google has terminated their contract with TeleAtlas for North American map data. This morning it was also reported (at GPSBusiness), that TomTom TeleAtlas will soon be losing the European map contract as well. AND has reportedly signed on with Google to provide street-level maps for several European countries. With a yearly revenue loss of probably less than $75 million, it shouldn't be a kill shot at TeleAtlas. The bigger problem is that they now have a new, focused, and larger competitor to deal with. Google has indicated their goal is to investigate, verify, and correct reported errors and omissions within 30 days, even including an e-mail to the reporter with how the issue is resolved. Neither TeleAtlas nor Navteq seems capable of responding in less than a few months, and sometimes years. On the surface, Googles plans appear overly-ambitious. But even if 60 days ends up more realistic,. it's going to be extremely difficult and costly for the competition to keep up. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr.

This will presumably also mean a move away from Teleatlas for the camera submision map as the submission map is based on the mapping provided by Google.
This would be a pity as it is currently easy to match up a location recorded on a TomTom with the submission map as both are based on Teleatlas data.
Will it be possible to have teleatlas data (from some other source) as an option on the submission map, perhaps using a similar method to the current open street map option? _________________ Paul
