Traffic data quality - TMC-RDS Traffic vs. GPRS Traffic

I have a TT 520T device, with the RDS-TMC traffic receiver.
I'm having issues with the RDS-TMC service (which I'll discuss elsewhere after I've tried all the fixes detailed on here!). So I thought I might try the GPRS-based service.

So I was wondering if there was any difference in the quality of traffic information received via the GPRS Traffic service, and RDS-TMC traffic ?
Or is is basically identical data just delievered via different means ?

(Note: I'm not referring to HD traffic)

I believe the main differences are that GPRS is not dependent on FM Radio transmission, so there are likely to be fewer connection problems and that the GPRS service gives you countrywide downloads (if you're at Land's End, you still get the traffic jams in John 'o Groats), whereas RDS-TMC is less wide ranging (75-100 miles radius of where you are, updating its coverage as you drive).

I haven't used both together seriously to compare (on separate devices, you can't run both simultaneously on one TT). But my opinion is I wouldn't subscribe to GPRS if I had RDS-TMC, because I think they are basically the same. My RDS-TMC works well enough, but the data is not a lot of use, so to get better reception of the same stuff I've never been tempted to subscribe.

I know you said not HD, but I'll add I shall be joining up for Live services, but NOT for the HD Traffic, which I find better, but not good enough to subscribe for.

I have used both extensively up and down the country.

With RDS TMC you get regional unreliable, out of date information with major things missing. With GPRS traffic you get national unreliable, out of date information with major things missing.

I live in North Yorkshire where they're widening the A1(M) and there are roads OFFICIALLY closed for long term changes. Do Tom Tom tell you that? Hell no. You have to learn the hard way that Dishford Road being closed means a 3 junction treck around.

Haven't posted for a while. Good to be back and grumbling again.

In short 2 different ways of receiving the same rubbish data.

Same rubbish but one is free & that's the one I use & I think it works very well, it has for me anyways.
