I have installed POI Warner on Medion MD96800 & it works succesfully.
Problem is when the battery goes flat it does a clean install when reconnected & I lose poi warner.
I then have to use a back up with active sinc.
Is there a way of installing it so that I dont have to keep using my backup when I have a flat battery.
Thanks

I don't know if it's this (I have a Navigon) but you might like to look, and see if the set up is similar.
When installed on the Navigon, there is a file called 'UpdateMe' in (I think) the main POI-Warner folder on the satnav. Under some circumstances, such as a software upgrade to the Navigon, this file gets deleted. The result is POI-Warner no longer initialises. All that is needed to get it working again is to copy the file from the PC back into the satnav's POI-Warner folder. Maybe your clean install is doing something similar.
However, if it's deleting POI-Warner completely I think you are a bit stuck - I have seen a comment elsewhere about flat batteries causing this problem. However, if you have all the POI-Warner files downloaded on your PC (Program Files - POI-Warner MN7 Edition), including your POI files, you should be able to just do a file copy of everything, rather than a fresh reload fron Sync.
(I HAVE had to do a reinstall of the POIs when I upgrade POI-Warner itself, which is slightly irritating. I haven't found out yet if there is a way round this, so I don't do an upgrade unless the 'history' file with the download shows that the changes seem important) _________________ David

Hi Bigperk
Thanks for replying,
I do have a back up, it just means I have to install it before I go on holiday or whatever.
The problem could arise if the battery goes flat while on holiday there is no way to install the backup unless I carry a laptop with me.
I use the satnav on my motorbike & is a bit of a pain if I lose the speed cameras. It is also inpractical to carry a laptop just for a back up.
I wonder if any one out there has an answer.
Would be a bit silly if every time you switched off your computer you lost everything.
I notice that you dont lose your saved favourites or recent routes or your home address so why cant we put the poi warner somewhere it would remane on the satnav ???
I havnt been able to find anything in search or on the web.
Perhaps it is impossible? |

I see some Medions have an SD card slot or similar - has yours? If so is it possible to direct the POI-Warner files there? That's obviously not transient memory, so should survive.
Might be worth asking the POI-Warner people (navigating.de) for advice as well - they are not too bad at helping. _________________ David

Tried that, Using active sinc puts it straight into the sat nav & not onto the SD card.
I did transfer the files but obviously something changes in the satnav for it to direct the program to open on the SD card if you could install it on there.
Then you would still lose it in the sat nav when the battery dies.
The saved routes apear to go on the flash drive in the sat nav & as I said these do not get deleted.
Havnt tried POI Warner yet I will give them a try. |

Result from POI Warner doesnt look good:-
Question:-
I was wondering if you can install POI Warner into the MD96800 so that when the battery dies & you have to do a clean install you do not lose your installation?
Answer:-
this depends very much on the navigation system you are using. When the battery dies, it may well be that POI-Warner does no longer start automatically. You will then have to connect the sat nav to the computer and "reinstall" POI-Warner in order to adjust the start options. You will not lose your data or settings.
However, if you perform a clean install and reset your sat nav to factory settings, POI-Warner will be deleted with all the settings and POI data. |
