|
|
I was delighted the other day to find that I have been awarded a lifetime subscription to the speed camera database after my recent camera submission.
I was however a little concerned today when I looked at my account to find that my subscription will end in 20 years, 8 days, 13 hours, 23 minutes, 44 seconds.
This is a very precise prediction for PocketGPSworld to make, is this giving the date of my demise, or the date of the demise of the database?

It's the day of your demise. Clearly you are younger than I, or I am less healthy than you, as mine is 16 years, 149 days, 7 hours, 51 minutes, 7 seconds
See you on the other side (four years after I pass over)!
Seriously, for some reason the whatsername can't manage more than 20 years or so. It is alleged that it will automatically renew by another 20 years when your demise is due - That's what "they" say, but I don't know a single person for whom it has been done! _________________ Dennis

Its a miss print, all life has already ended.

FWIW, joking aside, the 20yr limit is a limitation of our subscription system.
Assuming we're all still here in 20yrs then we will of course extend the subs of our life members. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I used to say I wanted to outlive my ex-wife. Now I have another goal - to outlive my 16 years, 149 days, 7 hours, 51 minutes, 7 seconds. According to actuarial statistics, I shall fall short by 149 days, 7 hours, 51 minutes, 7 seconds. Sad, innit? _________________ Dennis

the dates in the database work on the number of seconds since january 1st 1970. todays date/time in unix is 1254738277. 20 years = 631,138,519 seconds - which is quite a large number to be playing with! hence why we 'limit' the lifetime to 20 years.
the first lifetime subs were given nearly 4 years ago, so in another 16 years we will start 'topping up' your lifetime!

631,138,519 seconds. |
Well that explains it - you're using a nice convenient round figure.
(20 years, 5 days, 20 hours, 15 minutes, 19 seconds). (I think).
Where's Anita when you want a sum doing? If you're there, what's them seconds divided by whatever it is to get to years and stuff? (and what is it in both Hex and binary?). _________________ Dennis

I know about Octal cos' I was once in the clothing manufacturing trade, where rolls of cloth were in yards Octal. When we went onto computer, the Systems Analyst made the mistake of having invoices in Octal and delivery notes in decimal, i.e. 10.1 yards and 10.125 yards. So the program refused to pay invoices because they never matched up!
But I decided not to ask for Twelvetal as very few people these days know about feet or shillings. _________________ Dennis
