The Register
Quote: | The Welsh government is planning to introduce ANPR average speed camera technology as part of its work to cut road deaths.
Officials told the National Assembly for Wales Enterprise and Learning Committee that the Welsh government is moving towards adopting average speed camera technology, although not everywhere and not as a major change of policy. |

I can't help feeling that a lot of this is hot air and spin.
My reading of previous writings on the matter gave me to understand they were putting average speed cameras on a stretch of the M4 from Junction 24 to Junction 28. They have now done so and I think they are the first average speed cameras in Wales, so no doubt it's exciting for them. But surely some of them have travelled abroad to England and seen Specs cameras on the M4, M5 and M50 for example? It's no big deal.
As for mobile average speed cameras. Just how will Mr Brunstrom see this working? Will he seriously propose average speed cameras in his various camouflaged horseboxes and builders' vans, or even in properly liveried speed camera vans? How long would they stand up to scrutiny when to work properly they need precisely measured distances? I fancy the words Mobile and Specs are not compatible, except that you can use them both in the same sentence or paragraph for PR effect! _________________ Dennis

They're mobile only in the sense that they have one set that will be moved once or twice per year along the M4.
All rather daft really. _________________ Darren Griffin |
