How to manage .GPX exchange files for geocaching.com

Hope you can help. When I download .GPX exchange files from geocaching.com to my a10, each geocache is added as a separate category. I believe this occurs to allow multiple POI's for a given cache.

I have approx 200 geocaches downloaded to my a10 and so the map screen is very busy with POI icons. I COULD go through and individually hide each geocache (as a separate category); although this hide function is forgotten once you power off. Clearly this is not a viable work around with so many geocaches downloaded.

So is there a way of downloading individual geocaches from geocaching.com to the a10 so they all go into a "geocaching POI category" so I can hide ALL the geocache POI icons with a single button press?

All comments valued (even if it's just to say "NO" - at least it will stop me trying to achieve what is currently not possible). The satSYNC software didnt seem to offer any options on this. I wondered if some download software like GSAK may be able to help?

I think the answer is no. I do not think the Active 10 allows control over POIs categories and sub-categories in the way that you want (eg similar to the way speed cameras are in traffic sat-navs).

I suggest either checking the manual or giving the Satmap support team a call, they are very helpful.

I use GSAK to select the caches I want to do on a particlar caching trip.
I then produce a .gpx file with these caches from GSAK and load this into my A10.
So I just end up with a set of tailored caches for a given trip on the Satmap.

It sounds like you are downloading the individual caches by going to the cache page an clicking on the download gpx exchange file option, thus ending up with lots of individual POIs. If this is the case there are a couple of ways that you can resolve that and improve the speed at which you upload gpx files to the A10.

Both methods involve using pocket queries on geocaching.com. You will need to sign up to be a premium member to be able to generate them, but believe me if you do a lot of caching it is well worth it as well as getting the added benefit of email notifications of new caches.

In one of the last upgrades that satmap did to the Satsync software, you can now download a pocket querie which comes in the form of a zip file and then upload the zip file to the A10, this will put all the caches into the A10 in a single POI category.

The other method is as Daveweth said, download GSAK from GSAK.net it stands for geocaching swiss army knife, and once you have used it a bit you will agree it lives up to it's name. The software is free for 30 days and then after that you get prompts to ask you to by a licence, again it is not very expensive and worth it. Basically GSAK is a database program designed for geocaches, you can down load your pocket queries into and then sort them. You can choose which caches you want in a POI category then export that to the Satmap, this way you can have multiple POI categories and hide them as you wish.

You will need to use a special macro with GSAK so that it exports the information in the correct format for the A10, I have written one and if you PM me with your email address or contact me through "The K9 Crew" at geocaching.com I will send you the macro and the instructions.

The Pocket Query approach worked perfectly. I now have all my local (500) geocaches on my SatMap under a single POI category that I can hide / show all 500 POI icons with a single button press. Many thanks for your help and suggestions

Can I create a pocket query and load it onto the A10 as a zip file if I am on platform version 00.00.0 or would I have to upgrade. Thanks in advance.
