|
Hi
Being a user of WinMo for many years have recently moved to iphone and was wondering is it necessary to jailbreak the iphone to use the pgpsw speed camera database on the tomtom for iphone. I am planning on getting tomtom to use with my iphone
Does it work same like the winmo and other devices? I dont want to jailbreak the new iphone - especially as the pgpsw speed camera database is really important for me.
can someone advice? I am in UK and whats are my options? do I need to move out of tomtom?
Thanks/Dev |

If you want PGPSW custom POI files on the device than you will have to jailbreak it, I wouldn't recommend TomTom though as the application is rather basic and there is no POI warning capability, the best for running custom POI files with full spoken alerts is Sygic, the best for user interface and sound control is Navigon.
Have a good look at the forums before wasting your money purchasing your current first choice as there is considerably better available at less cost - Mike |

Thanks Mike! Really helpfull advice.
About Navigon and Sygic - is it possible to use the UK full zoned pgpsw speedcam database on these applications and get the alerts (voice) as we approach speed cameras which we generally get when using tomtom?
I have been using pgpsw database for 3-4 years now and cannot live without it especially as my work requires me to drive all over UK.
Many thanks

I have never got Navigon to work with the PGPSW speed cameras, but Sygic supports these files and the OGG audio spoken alert files also work.
Sygic is the best application for the iPhone when it comes to custom POI support as you get everything you need/ want, even if the application currently feels like its PPC software ported straight to the iPhone (very few of the iPhone gestures for zoom and scrolling through menus etc are supported as yet - an update should sort this out though we hope).
None of the other applications offer the ability to use the full Speed Zoned set-up with voice/ spoken warnings, I posted a guide showing how to install and configure the camera database on the Sygic iPhone app which can be seen Here - Mike |
