|
|
HI.
Looking on here dont really see what DB I need to download and instructions? Ive done a few searches and looked around the net, and dont plan on spending £20+ for a list
(Just got a new Medion 3230 from aldi, (upgrade from tomtom) and so far the list of countries (east / west europe) and details for price I think would be hard to match (forget tomtom comparied already and have been looking for over a month) I purched for £80 in hungry on road trip...)
Thanks in Advance...

It depends if the Medion supports custom POIs. Previous models have need a 3rd party plug-in to support this function, see here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

If the unit uses the software as shown below, you can only use the program at this link HERE (opens in a new window).
You would need to confirm with navigating.de that indeed that software works for your unit before you purchase it, if you are interested in it.
That unit seems to be about 2 years old now and Medion have not released any updated maps for it. Taken from the US release at Aldi HERE (opens in a new window).
Their response when asking about maps for any unit using the 4.X software was as follows earlier this year:
Quote: | Dear Mr xxxxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting us.
The latest maps we have available are online on medionshop.co.uk, these maps are provided by NavTeq, we cannot provide any further updates until we receive them from NavTeq.
If you require any further assistance then please do contact us.
Kind regards
Xxxxx |

Thanks for the replies...
It looks like the GOPal Assistant Downloads and installs a "POI Warner Light for GOPAL 4.x" on the unit from what I can see allows plugin for other 3rd party POI.. I can see on the unit all the standard POI (petrol, Rail, Shops etc), plus the ALDI stores... in the manual it says
"Proceed as follows to copy additional POI files from the inserted CD/DVD to the memory card:
1. Open the POI folder in the directory of your CD/DVD drive.
2. Copy the desired files (e. g. hotel.de.psf etc.).
3. Go to the directory window MapRegions of the external memory card and insert the copied
contents."
Just to note, the unit has a built in 2GB memory, and it DOES have an aditional SD slot (I can see my 2GB Card in their now from the gopal assistant)
As for the maps they all appear to be "Quarter 2 / 2008" and in total 47 countries !
Some of which like Russia / greece only 50% coverage, but still impressed with detail of all the others... Again the unit was under £90 and sorting out RAM waterproof box for motorbike and use the clunky standard bracket for car....
Just SpeedCams would be nice without having to fork out the ongoing cash from "navig.ting.de" site....
Cheers.

I've just got one of these and I have found that POI warner is in fact included
on the installation CD.
this is what I did and it appears to work - I haven't tried a new speed camera database yet, but I can see my nearest petrol garage on the map
(it's not exact science and some steps may be unnecessary!)
Installed ActiveSync and GoPal Assistant.
Get an empty SD card and put in PC cardreader (not Nav unit)
Use GoPal assistant, select software and 'morePOI' - check selected volume is the SD card (not the nav device) and synchronise.
A Folder '7' is created with POI Warner in it
Then I put the SD card in the Nav unit and powered it up. Didn't notice any difference so reset it this time.
Still didn't see anything so went back to GoPAL assistant , selected the Nav device as the Volume, selected MorePOI in the software and synchronised.
This time I go a tick next to morePOI in the internal memory and I can see an Esso icon at the bottom of my road:-)
BTW I have loads of POIs installed - not just Aldis but I don't know whether they were pre-installed or not!
cheers

FWIW, in previous cases with Navigon, the POIWarner supplied with the device is a cut-down 'LITE' version intended only to support the POIS the manufacturer has supplied.
It did not enable support for third party POIs as confirmed by the plug-in authors, Navigating.de.
Worth bearing in mind here in case (as seems likely) it is the same. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I thought it was too good to be true!
Got the Icons on the maps though which I didn't have before :-)
So I have to buy POI warner to get speed cameras, but what format of the database do I need for PIO Warner/GoPal/Medion3320?
cheers

POIWarner (Full version) will IIRC accept .csv files. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The current version of POI-Warner (Full version) now only use .asc files for the Medion GoPal version 4.x (or version) 5.x |
