|
|
I received an email today from TomTom telling me that a new map was available for download. It had an odd start to the email:
"Dear English Bas"
I wonder if I have upset them? _________________ Drivelux |

I had exactly the same greeting. I too was beginning to wonder whether to write a stern letter to their customer relations department. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

I'm afraid I had a massive sense-of-humour failure at what I initially took to be some kind of bizarre racist slur. So I dropped them a line, to which they replied as follows.
"Hi there, We are aware of the marketing E-mail that was sent with incorrect wording for the UK market. We are a Dutch company and the the word BAS is an adjective of BASE in Dutch Language. Thus English Base or base/ registered customers.
Apologies for the confusion."
I almost believe them. _________________ The style of my clothing should not be taken to indicate that I am employed by a circus in any capacity whatsoever. |

TomTom have apologised:
You have just received an email which was not up to the standards of TomTom. The greeting (Dear English Bas) was in fact specifying the language of the mail followed by my first name, this should have been personalised with your name. _________________ Drivelux |

I got the apology, but not the original email. The daft sods.
New maps so soon? Or is this email a fortnight late? In which case, a double cock-up! |

I downloaded this map weeks ago (or so it seams)
As TT do not put the map version on the email I did not think that TT could be that far behind with their email and another new map was ready _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

So TomTom have now apologised - fair enough. However, since the explanation given in their apology differs from the explanation they gave in their original excuse, would it be terribly uncharitable of me to assume that at least one of those explanations must be a lie?
I could forgive a little bit of creativity from their PR department after such an almighty b*lls-up, but it now seems that even the new map they were announcing was also nothing more than a figment of someone's fevered imagination. What the hell are we dealing with here - Muppet Labs?
I'm not giving TomTom any more of my hard-earned cash while they keep spending it on that stuff they're smoking. _________________ The style of my clothing should not be taken to indicate that I am employed by a circus in any capacity whatsoever. |
