An update to my previous post:

I've manually extracted the tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat files from the downloaded map and copied them to the device, as recommended. And… it works! No reboot cycle anymore, and TMC-RDS actually picks up a signal. Yay!

As for my problem with duplicate Petrol Station POIs, I found the following files in the map folder on my device:

Code:
    1552 Aug 15  2008 FuelStationsEU.bmp
      40 Aug  5  2008 FuelStationsEU.fpf
  583793 Aug 15  2008 FuelStationsEU.ov2
     132 Dec 31  1999 FuelStationsEU.ov2.dct
      91 Aug 15  2008 FuelStationsEUOv2.ver

I've never (intentionally!) downloaded any fuel price-related data from TomTom; I live in eastern Germany and the data is simply not available for my location. I therefore suppose that the above files may have shipped with my device. Could it be that there is a duplication of data between these files and (say) the poi.dat that shipped with the new map? Is it at all safe to delete these files (having made a backup)?

Hi wjv, If you go to Menu/ChangePreferences/Show POI On Map, How many POI categories do you have for Petrol Stations and for FuelStations, and how many of these categories are "ticked" to display?. My Go730 only has the default TT Petrol Stations installed, none of my categories are called FuelStations.

I always hit the "Quote" button even if I only want to quote part of the post, then delete what I don't want. That way it shows the name of the person you're quoting, rather than just "Quote:", which can often help, especially if the post you're quoting is on a previous page.

Finally got the new maps working Very Happy My boss copied his 740 files from his tom tom except from the maps. Copied them into my 740. Deleted all single files and the contents of the downloaded files from home (complete/Program dir) ran the updater again only got tomtom app and maps but only updated the application. Restarted the 740 then connected it to TomTom home again. This time got the new map update. A while later and the crossing of fingers it updated and worked. Drove 270 miles today no problems. Only problem is i now have no hair Crying or Very sad

Hi AliOnHols,

Good idea, but I just checked and I can only see the default "Petrol Stations" category. I've unticked it, and subsequently reticked it, and I still get the duplicate POIs.

I don't know if the various FuelStations*.* files I mentioned earlier are at all relevant to this problem, but if they are, it seems that despite the name they're all of category "Petrol Stations". (At least if I use UK English on my device.)

Just to confirm if you checked to see if any Petrol Stations were displayed when you unticked the category and before re-ticking it.
Personally, I would suggest removing the FuelStationsEU files and store them safely somewhere on your computer (NOT anywhere near your existing TT files though) and see what happens.

Do you have a recent WindowsExplorer back up you can fall back on just in case things go awry? If not, make one first.

Success!

I didn't have a back up of this device as it was a replacement for a faulty unit. What I did have was a Time Machine back up of the old one. Extracted the tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat files, copied them over to the new device and instant Traffic. Now why don't TomTom know this? - sorry stupid question. Rolling Eyes

Thanks all for this solution.

Have you tried replacing the tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat files?

Sorry if this has been covered but can't be bothered going through 12 pages to find out!

No, and the latest from Tomtom is an obviously cut-and-pasted email with instructions for fixing ""getting stuck on the voice selection", which is a problem I do not have!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
