I am considering getting an application to Jailbreak my new Iphone so that I can copy my POI's into Tomtom and Copilot. After searching the internet I have found the following:
ADMIN Edit; URL removed
However I am not sure what the pros and cons are for jailbreaking. For example would I still be able to use itunes and is the warranty with O2 still valid? _________________ Please follow me on twitter @mdyson1968 |

Your warranty with o2 would be invalid, you can still use Itunes as before. _________________ Tomtom Go730T

Just be careful. Remember the difference between jailbreak and unlock. The app you mention says unlock but mentions jailbreak only for ipod touch. You don't have to pay to get hold of the best jailbreak apps e.g. redsn0w and then ultrasn0w to unlock. Google them and how to use. That app also says unlock 3.1 OS which is extremely ill advised at the moment as ony in developer status. Your O2 will still work and iTunes, but after JB you will need to restore before updating the OS. Also though I haven't needed warranty, if you restore (and delete any JB apps beforehand) Apple can't tell it was JB so you can take it in and get if fixed. BTW, warranty is with Apple, not O2.
Some of the "paid" unlockers for iPhone just tell you how to use the free stuff anyway! Check the PGPSW nav app comparison table to see if you can get custom POIs in. For example you can get the PGPSW cameras in to some if JB'ed (I did for Sygic and its really good) but TT as no proximity warning sounds so no point according to e.g. Darren.
In any case- its not sa simple as buy a box off the internet. DYOR and plenty of it and its entirely at your own risk. It can at least be reversed with a restore.
Finanally I had lots of help from guys in the forums, search and ask is the answer!

And regardless, trust no-one but the iPhone-Dev Team and their solutions. Almost all the others are based upon or stolen from these guys and iPhone-Dev Team solutions are FREE.
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
These guys rule the roost and anyone charging for a solution is almost certainly using a their software. It's simple and relatively risk free and whatever happens you can return your phone to Out of the box standard of necessary.
I've used them for my 2G, 3G and 3GS and never had any issue. I've flashed, re-flashed, returned to standard and all without a hitch but use any other solution at your own risk _________________ Darren Griffin |

And I would suggest using iclarify.com for instructions on how to use the Iphone Dev Team stuff as their own instructions can be a bit difficult to see the wood for the trees. _________________ Tony

I must be sensitive. For the benefit of the original question and my response - redsn0w and ultrasn0w ARE the latest dev-team solutions that Darren et al are referring to.

Alright.I'll use a smily instead I was kidding.
All I meant - Mark could have been confused when I said redsn0w and you siad "regardless, use dev-team"
I found it all confusing what to use when I did JB. Its good to search around a bit and ask questions, then you understand why. I did first for the PGPSW cams - and then wondered why on earth I hadn't done it ages ago. And not just for themes and suchlike . .

Apols. I confess I completely missed your references to redsn0w and ultrasn0w! My turn to go hide now! _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm getting a bit confused now! the links above are for a hacking team and a warez community, this in turn allows you to put cracked apps on your device, are we now supporting this, and are we free to discuss hacked/cracked apps? _________________ Tomtom Go730T

The irony that the word warez is censored in my post _________________ Tomtom Go730T

iPhone-Dev Team do not participate in or discuss cracked apps. They simply work on unlock/jailbreaks for the iPhone. They have on many occasions stated their support for app developers.
A JailBroekn iPhone can have apps installed that are not sourced from Apple, many of these are legitimate commercial apps. Google Talk is available via Cydia (the JailbReak app store) as Apple won't approve it in their store.
It is no different to accessing a PND to get at the underlying OS so you can install another nav application and isn't illegal despite Apple's attempts to make it so.
We have no issue with this, what we will not permit though is the discussion of or use of hacked apps i.e. Any app that has been pirated/shared/stolen etc _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not any more it isn't. It and other words such as Torrent was blocked a long time back when we had people posting links to our speedcam database repeatedly as one of the measures to thwart them.
It isn't necessary anymore. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Just to add to what Darren has just said. I quote from the Hackint0sh forum which is the mouthpiece of the iPhone Dev Team -
"Let me make it clear to all that this forum DOES NOT Allow the followings:
- link to custom firmware
- link to cracked IPA
- Link to patches to allow installation of cracked apps.
Please remember Jailbreak, Unlock is perfectly legal. Cracking software, piracy distributions and such is ILLEGAL.
Please observe these rules and enjoy you stay at the forum
Thank you" _________________ Tony
