Hi all, I am new to this forum. I hope someone can help me.
I have just bought a TomTom 540 and have installed some POIs using TomTom Home. None of them are visible on the map whilst I drive along. So I have removed them and subscribed to PGPSW. I downloaded their speed camera database and a load of Poi's and now my TomTom 540 wont even load.
Has anyone else had any problems with the TomTom 540 using the PGPSW databases? It's a pane if I hae spent £19.99 for files that don't work with my unit.
Or are there just issues with the TomTom 540 in general. It's not doing what I want it to with POI's on the map and as expected TomTom's camera database is a waste of time.
Any ideas and advice is welcomed.
Cheers,
Martin |

Hi and welcome to the Forum.
Can you connect the TT to your computer and carefully delete the POIs and speed camera database from the unit?
If so, do so and then see if the unit works. The POIs and Speed Cameras from PGPSW shouldn't cause a problem but occasionally something goes awry.
Do you know how many POIs you loaded? |

Hi Paul, thanks for your fast reply. It may be that I tried to load too many POI file in one go. I have been trying to restore a backup on TT HOME in the hope I can at least get it working. The trouble is I stupidly created a backup with POI's from TT already installed. I have no bog standard install as a backup. Any idea where I can get a default install from?
I tried clearing out the POI files and then when I switched it on it complained that was no map. Oops must have took out something I needed, so back to the beginning.
I've only had it 3 days and it's now a useful doorstop at present :-( |

Exactly what i'm thinking.
OK. Just copy everything from the backup back to the unit, then go into the map folder and carefully delete the POI files (OV2) and the accompanying icons (BMP). Each OV2 should have a BMP with exactly the same name.
At least you have some sort of backup, however you should make a backup in Windows Explorer and not TT Home. However we can deal with that later.. |

From your backup, use Explorer to copy back the complete specific map folder to your unit. Disconnect the unit properly from the computer (Device--Disconnect).
When the unit boots up, does it see the map now? If not, back to Explorer (keep Home CLOSED). and copy all the loose files in the backup (no Folders or their contents) into the root of the unit, overwriting the loose file already there.
Disconnect again. Any better? _________________ David |

At last, I now have something that resembles a Sat Nav again
Thanks for both your advice. I have now copied the whole TomTom to a folder on the Hard Drive as a clean back up. It seems to have just it's default POI files and nothing else.
At least it's working now. That's the main thing.
Any advice for installing the cameras I have just paid for? It would be nice if I could get them to work.
Cheers,
Martin |

Well that was painless. I should have come here in the first place. I have a feeling it was the POI files that messed it all up earlier. I have none except the ones that come with the unit. Is there a limit to how many you can have? I noticed other devices suffer if you install too many. Maybe I confused it. I certainly confused myself.
So far so good. |

Excellent. I'm not sure how many POIs the x40s are limited to but it's probably best to decide which ones you really need and only install those. I only have 15 plus the Speed Cameras... |

169 is the number of custom POI categories you can install, each single category can contain thousands of individual locations - Mike |

Thanks for the magic number Mike. I expect I went a bit mad and confused the poor thing. At least I managed to get it working again.
Thank to Paul for your valuable help. All's well that ends well.
