Help me! ¦ Phone for help ¦ AA Breakdown
In the above menu, there is the option to use the "Where am I?" function to automatically phone the AA Breakdown services and display your current location. This is all well and good if you belong to the AA, but if you belong to any other breakdown/recovery service then that function is useless.
I’ve spent some time looking for clues to where to make changes, especially the AA graphic but I’ve drawn a blank.
Has anybody managed to edit the roadside assistance in TomTom so that:
1. The icon of the chosen breakdown service appears instead of the AA
2. The correct telephone number of the chosen breakdown service is used
Whilst this is definitely not essentially, it would be a nice customisation feature.

Nope, never seen it. Would make a good improvement though.
I guess there's some commercial tie-up between TT and the AA though, so they won't implement it. |

Have not got a TT with the phone option on it. But what options do you get when you do the following:
Press the Mobile Phone Icon.
Select the Call.... Icon
Select the (what options do you get) Icons ?
If that makes any sense at all |

I believe that this data is in the html files (not really html format) in the help folder. _________________ Drivelux |

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. Apologies for the delay in getting back, but I’ve had a response from TomTom (see below)

The Options/Icons that I get are:
Home
Number
Point of Interest
Phonebook entry
Recently dialled
Recent Caller

That makes sense, unfortunately when I used the standard Windows XP search function, nothing matching "AA" or "Breakdown" was found in the html extension files. Are there any better search utilities that I could use?
However I logged a call with TomTom Support and I now have had reply back from them.

Thanks for your email regarding the help menus. I am afraid these options are encoded into the map and it is not possible to add or edit these options.
We have noted this feedback and therefore we have passed your comments to our Product Management and Marketing Team, so this can be looked at in our future releases. |
I have asked them for the names of the files and the best tools to edit those files so that I can have the Breakdown Service of my choice and its telephone number available, but TomTom probably won't like to give me that information. But if you don't ask you don't get!

The information must be in the map folder as when I switch to my France map I have different information and there is nothing to do with France in anything but my France map folder. These files are all encrypted or encoded so there is no editing that can be done. _________________ Drivelux |

A decent Hex editor with a search capability would probably be the best app to try and find it, if they have done a CRC check on the file though changing it could screw up the app from loading the map - Mike |
