|
|
I am thinking of replacing my faithfull old TTG 700 with the 940 Live.
Currently I'm using a Brodit mount with the 700 and will want to use one with the 940.
Question: The blurb for the Live Active Holder (215393) on the Brodit site says "You can attach for example a charging cable or a TMC cable to the holder". Does this mean either or, or both RDS-TMS and the charging cable at the same time ?

On the rear of the Brodit accessory dock are three connectors:
Power in which can also be used with a Mini USB style RDS-TMC receiver
Line Out for connecting to the cars audio system
RDS-TMC/ iPOD socket which can be used for the older round style plug RDS receiver OR the iPOD control cable.
Have a look at This Thread for some additional details on installing it - Mike |

Thanks for the reply Mike.
Am I correct in thinking that the TomTom 5/7/940 car power supply lead plugs into the RDS-TMC Receiver then only the RDS-TMC plugs into the Brodit Mount supplying it with both Traffic Information and Power for the 5/7/940.

I am not sure why you would want to buy a 940 Live then use the TMC receiver with it. The main point with the 940 Live being the inbuilt live Service HD traffic system. The only use for the TMC would be if you did not want to subscribe to the Live Service or to use the device abroad in a place without access to Live Services.
If you wanted to use the new USB style TMC receiver you would plug this into the USB port in the mount then the USB power lead into the TMC receiver. _________________ Drivelux |

With the Brodit accessory mount you can use either the older style round plug type RDS-TMC or the Mini USB receiver as the dock has connections for both and they both work fine.
There is also the Windscreen mount with the RDS-TMC receiver built in to it which provides a neater solution, particularly if you turn the RDS-TMC equipped mount into something that uses the Brodit attachment and give it an external aerial connection
I know of at least one other person on this forum who has done this, its not a cheap mounting solution but it does offer the best all round capability with no wires around the car (bear in mind to do this you need the Brodit accessory dock and the RDS-TMC dock and some Torx screwdriver bits - Mike |

The reason for wanting a RDS-TMC Receiver is because I spend time driving in Belgium & France where unfortunately as I understand the "Live" will not work with a UK based subscription for the 940.

Your Live service coverage will be extended to include Europe in those countries covered by the service at the end of the year when roaming is turned on, the XL Live range already has this capability from new - Mike |

Supposedly the UK subscribed HD Live service will work in France later this year, but Belgium does not have HD traffic. _________________ Drivelux |

Thank you gentlemen for the replies.

Mike, Any idea of the definition of "End of the year" ?
I can purchase a RDS-TMC Receiver for £23.99 inc P&P on e-Bay so I will get one and leave it in the glove box until required or as a backup if the Live Service fails.

Well December 31st is what I first thought - who knows if it will get switched on prior to then though.
If you are getting the Brodit Mount I would have a look at Currys on line as they have been selling off the older round plug style receivers for under £2 with free postage! Check out This Thread, there are still people reporting they are available - This round style receiver will work fine with the Brodit dock - Mike |

In the UK, we've been led to believe that new Live models will roam "out of the box" but that those of us who supported TT by buying early will have to wait! _________________ Jock

IIRC TomTom said Q4 for existing units to have roaming enabled? _________________ Darren Griffin |

It is down to roaming agreements between TomTom and the various mobile operators in the countries involved, as of yet TomTom have not the agreements between themselves Vodafone and the other european operators in place. It was probably easier to get agreements between the other companies than vodafone. _________________ Drivelux |
