Hi Everyone. Can you help me. I recently purchased a couple of maps from TOM TOM to update my 920T. These were the UK and Ireland and North America. I had to create some space apparently as the files were going to be too big for the units memory. This seemed a bit odd to me as I thought it would just overwrite the existing maps. First mistake??
Anyway I deleted a few files, mostly voices and car icons I think. I tried to download the first map (North America) and after 4 hours it failed!!!!!!!! I then tried the UK map on it's own and that seemed to go OK. Only 1/2 hour to download. However, since doing this I seemed to lost the ability to enter a full postcode. I can enter the first 4 digits but not the last three. Not a lot of use.
So my questions are:- what have I done wrong, should I have needed to delete any files, should I have deleted the old maps first and most importantly how do I get my postcodes back?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check that you have a Folder, called zip, in the Root of the Unit and that it has 4 Files in it.
If it does, are you using Navigate to ..., Address, Postcode?
If you don't have the Folder you can download it from http://www.oldboy.me.uk/TomTomUpdates/zip.zip
Just Copy the unzipped Folder and Files to the Unit.
If you have a Full Windows Backup, you should have the zip Folder in that. _________________ Richard

Hi Old Boy,
Thanks for your help. I do follow the route you stated for selecting postcodes. Anyway, I looked at the folders and files etc on my device and there wasn't any folder with the name you mentioned. I downloaded from the link you kindly gave me and it would appear to have worked. I have no idea what I did to get rid of them in the first place. I'm always nervous about doing these updates for precisely this reason. I have got a back up on my desktop but so far haven't needed to go there thank God.
One more thing. After I had copied the files over I looked at my device again and I couldn't see them anywhere. I'm guessing they have been absorbed into another folder somewhere but it would be nice to know which one.
Anyway, thanks again. I'll try to downmload the US map now. Pray for me.

The files live in a folder called zip (I guess that's because US postal codes are zip codes). _________________ Paul |

When the download File is Unzipped, it should have extracted a Folder named zip, containing the 4 Files, to a location specified by you. The complete Folder (+ files) would then be copied to the Root of the Device Memory. _________________ Richard

And once you're happy with it, take ANOTHER backup so that you can go back to the current point if anything untoward happens in the future. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |
