|
|
Hi
If you have Sygic (Europe), could you check something for me please? I naturally have my regional settings set to miles, but when I do Navigate then Favourites, my favourites are listed showing distance in kilometers. Does anybody else see that?
Thanks. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Yes I noticed this yesterday.
I must compile a list of these minor bugs to send to Sygic.
For example "Go straight over the roundabout 3rd exit" when it should be go "Go right at the roundabout 3rd exit".
Then there is "Turn slightly left" at a right angled bend. |

I suspect this is more to do with the embedded map information rather tham the software. Is it IGO based software? Igo S/W tends to do this. |

Then there is "Turn slightly left" at a right angled bend. | This seems to happen with all satnavs (differently). It's the old problem of telling a computer how to speak, it does exactly what you tell it and occasionally gives strange results. I've found similar odd instructions from TomTom, McGuider and Garmin (at the same junctions) - "Bear right", "Turn right", "Sharp right". The best result is "Cross the roundabout, third exit" (or first, second, fourth, fifth).
Road numbers are a frequent cause for this sort of oddity - A1, A100, A1000, A12, A123, A1234 - how to pronounce each? Where do you put an "and"? Should you put in an "and"? "A one thousand and two hundred and thirty four" or "A one two three four"? "A one hundred", "A one zero, zero", "A one hundred and twenty three", "A one two three".
The programmers really can't win. _________________ Dennis

There is some logic to it which programmers could easily use. If the numeric part is less than or equal to 100 we usually say it as a number e.g. M twenty-five. Greater than 100 we usually say each digit e.g. A one two three four. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

The difficulty lies in "usually".
A two, zero, zero?
B four, zero, zero, zero?
I fancy a bunch of "equal to" statements? Good fun thinking about it, though!
Incidentally, I've even heard one BBC Radio Four traffic reporter say something like "A eleven forty four" and "A double one double four". Winds me up no end! _________________ Dennis

If <100 say the number
If ends in 000, say the first number then "thousand"
If ends in 00, say (the first one/two numbers as a number) then "hundred"
Anything else, quote each number separately.
Simples.
The TomToms show user-inputted road speeds as a conversion from mph to km/h and then back again so can be off by one from what you typed in. They all seem to have their quirks.
PS TomTom, motorway junctions numbers ending in an "A" should be pronounced "aye" just like the A at the start of an "A road" number. _________________ Gerry

There is another bug in Sygic when using Custom POI's on the device and the Warn hen Near POI function. Set up the warn when near option then go back to the same category, answer no to the question about removing the warning and the software decrements the warning distance by one yard every time you answer no - Seen exactly the same bug in TomTom software a few years ago which seems a little strange - Mike |

Simples. | Might you want to count how many digits there are in the number first? (A1000 = A ten hundred?) (I never did programming - did you guess?).
Don't you just hate it when hens get near your POIs? _________________ Dennis

The idea would be to check them in order. In this case, #2 would match (*000) so you would get "A-one-thousand".
It gets more complicated when you get to numbers ending a zero - should you say "A-one-twenty" or "A-one-two-oh"? Then what to do with 4 digits! I've done prgramming.
