quite so - Garmin wants £60 just for a 2009 euro maps update and won't say if enough changed to make decent value (yes I know you can get "lifetime" but again for that device . . . Sygic is fine for me.
Re things about iPhone car mounts etc. I've just got the mini-friction mount (BuyBits in the UK, Arkon in the states) - also available as I got from Amazon marketplace (SatNav accessories - which is BuyBits again at least that's where it posted from). Point is good neat (cheapish) small mount on dash. They also do a removable grill mount also quite small.
Anybody else seen them or used. The friction mount seems to be working OK and is smaller than the Garmin one I've been using . .

I don't seem to be getting any audible over speed limit indication with my Sygic. I have selected a sound in the preferences etc. I do get the exclamation mark beside the speed limit but that is all.

The Arkon Universal PDA mounts will take the iPhone in a case, I use the Otter Defender case in one, and you can get the power lead plugged in to the phone while it is in the case and the mount without any problem.

I have posted up a step by step guide to loading the PGPSW speed camera database to the Sygic app running on ihone Here - its needs a Jailbroken phone to work though - Mike

Mike, in my ongoing efforts, another query. Diskaid site currently says totally free but paid version has more functions. Also Diskaid works without JB, but for understanding, the JB is needed to access the root directory on the phone.
I presume you could use SSH or iPhonebrowser instead of Diskaid?
I know we'd like Sygic to add the PGPSW capability, but its hard to see how can be done, given the root access needed, without resyncing the whole thing each update. Think the JB route and your method with Scarymonkeys bulk convertor is as eay as doing the normal e.g. my Garmin route. After the first at least by the sound of it.
Now if Apple would legalise JB'ing as the EFF want, then really no problem, but as we know, they're still fighting this - latest excuse is that JBing alone (not unlocking!) will allow nasty people to crash the mobile masts' software (see slashdot) So JB now or wait for OS3.1 - problems, problems.

I tried iPhoneBrowser but it refused to run on my Vista setup so I simply moved on to another application that I found to work, if it costs me a few quid to purchase the software then I am quite happy to pay - Lets face it the purchase cost is less than a round of drinks in the local pub for me and the wife!
It would be nice to see a better (and easier) way to deliver the PGPSW database to the application, but anything capable of this is going to take time, being impatient I went for the JB option and to be honest if it bricked the iPhone I wouldn't have been too bothered - Mike
