MyGuide a European company producing PNDs, Dataloggers and the World's first georeferrenced video camera is reported as going into administration soon, possibly as early as this week. Sources tell us that MyGuide will be closing operations in Germany, Holland and Hong Kong.

MyGuide introduced some interesting concept GPS products such as the GPS Camcorder and the O'Neill GPS ski jacket.

Especially for Stu (Deepfour), if he's affected, coming so quickly on the heels of VM's demise.

Very big shame, especially for Deepfour as someone else mentioned.
I just wonder how many more companies are going to go under in the next year or so.

Just checking out the website and it does seem lots of pages are not working and the support page just has the following message

"Hotline currently not available

Due to technical problems, the MyGuide Hotline is currently not available. We are working hard to restore functionality as soon as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience."

The shop is also offline for maintainance Rolling Eyes

Gutted for Stu, and as a distribution point we are also gutted at the loss of MyGuide..They had some great product at great prices and the product that they had planned for Q4 08 and Q1 09 was amazing....

The TTFF (time to first fix) has long been a stumbling block for GPS when considering it for geo-tagging photos. The Geotate solution to this problem is a novel approach. Hopoefully it won't be left to rot, though I suppose it depends on the status of any patents. Does anyone know the format of the raw GPS data it recorded. Was it RINEX ?

I wholeheartedly agree. MyGuide's forthcoming product range looked very very promising, a crying shame.

In Friday's Daily Mail Asda were advertising MyGuide 3218 for £50. I tried www.myguide.com today and lo and behold there is a a web site again. It says "myguide.com is in the process of re-designing its points based search engine. A new version with improved performance and unique features is scheduled for release in September, 2009." It also says "Please feel free to use the existing search engine located at www.myguide.com.

If you have any questions or comments email them to us at info@myguide.com."

Does this mean the company is back up and running? I assume that Asda would not sell a myGuide satnav if there was no support available from the manufacturer or would it? The seach engine merely produces web sites a la Google. There is no hint as to whether things like speed camera updates might be availalbe. I have emailed them and will post their reply.

I think you'll find the MyGuide you see now is a Google type search engine. Shops can sell goods even if the supporting company has gone bust too..

As far as I know the company is bankrupt and no longer trading. I expect that Asda has bought up a job lot of bankrupt stock for a promotion.
