Thanks for everyones contribuion but we are straying off the point a bit what I want to find out from TT is why they dont update the post codes?
Because from what the experts here have said they dont. Its only because I could not find B23 5DD that it then became clear the ZIP file on your device is not normally updated.
If they were doing updates I understand there will always be some delay in the new data getiing to us, but the way it is at the moment you never get any new information or at least it seems that way. |

TT's view seems to be that software updates are free but map updates and "Premium Services" require on-off purchases or a subscription.
If you follow this through, the post-code data must be part of the operating system and therefore updated for free, part of the map data and therefore part of any new map you get, or a separate free download available from the TT support centre.
I would think that with all the appropriate subscriptions you should be entitled to receive this data but TT probably never thought of this one and getting them to do something about it will take until the end of time! _________________ Device: GO 600, Live connected via iPhone 5.

I have now received a reply from my query with TT support that says they cannot provide an immediate solution to my problem, so it has been upgraded to the 2nd line technical department.
They also say they do hope to find a solution for my enquiry. |

Hi All
I have downloaded the 801-postcode ZIP file into my 720.
ALL O/K
But when I connect to home it wants to down load a ZIP folder with 603 postcodes. This is what was in my 720 before I started.
Is the 801 the correct post code file for the 720 or is TT Home correct?
Regards

Did you put the postcode files in a folder called "zip" (without the quotes) on your tomtom? _________________ Paul |

The postcode files could be matched to work with a specific map release, if TT Home spots you don't have the correct postcode file to match your installed map then it will try and get you the one it wants you to use.
I am not too sure which maps the v801 files are intended for but I did get these supplied with my 940 - Mike |

Mike you would think and hope that TT map updates would be matched to the correct post code file but in my case the original version 504 was still in the ZIP folder of my 510, but the maps were updated to 830.2307 when the last UK & Republic of Ireland map was released, so it seems just so long as the ZIP file is older then the map file it will work, but perhaps it gets upset if the ZIP version is too new for the maps.
I downloaded version 801 from OLDBOYS link and it still works OK with that except it still doesn't have the specific one I wanted. It has since been connected to Home at least twice and it has not attmpted to download another version. |

TT support said they would escalate the query up to level 2 support and they have since confirmed that post codes are not normally updated in any way even with new maps.
They do consider it to be a problem and in the meantime give the following solution as a work around.
Please work through this email to install these files onto your TomTom.
- Connect your TomTom to your Computer and switch it on.
- On a PC, open 'My Computer', you will see the TomTom as a Removable Storage Device, e.g. TomTom (E, double click into it.
- On a Mac, you will see the TomTom device on your desktop, double click into it.
- Check if the SD card / hard drive of the TomTom contains a folder called "zip" and another folder called "tomtom".
- If the folder "tomtom" folder is missing, create a new folder on the TomTom Drive and rename it to "tomtom". Leave it empty.
- If the folder "zip" is missing, create a new folder called 'zip'.
- Now please download the files by clicking on this link and saving them to your desktop:-
http://tomtom.com/updates/zipcodes/map7/wezipcodes715.zip
- Once this file has downloaded, it will be on your desktop.
- Right click on the file and select “Extract to here”
- The extracted files will be called “Great Britain Postal” (there might also be Netherlands Postal files. You can install these as well if you wish.)
- Copy and paste the file(s) into the 'zip' folder on the TomTom device. If it asks if you want to replace this file click yes
Once the files have copied across, please close My Computer and use the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon in the bottom right hand corner of your computer to disconnect your TomTom from the computer.
The post code search will now be working on your TomTom. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you further.
The version 715 is still lower than the one Richard has available |

EricWB. I wonder why TomTom support say to create a folder called "tomtom". Not near my TT at the mo so can't check if I have such a file and, if I do, what it contains.
Our Dutch friends here in spain refer to us as "The Island Monkeys". But if ever there was a good reason why not to legalize drugs in the Uk I think TomTom are it. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Thanks OldBoy, I wonder if TomTom are aware of this? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
