i don't know how many requests apple need before they consider adding features but i've just sent this via their form here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Quote: | Hi,
With more and more turn by turn navigation apps being available is it possible for an 'audio mixer' to be added to the iPhone? When I am using a navigation app such as Sygic I have to have the audio going through my car stereo otherwise it can't be heard from the iPhones own speaker. This makes journeys boring as I can;t have my music on; so, I use the iPod on the iPhone to play music at the same time as the app BUT then the sounds from the navigation app are too quiet compared with the iPod music... If there was a way to turn down the iPod but leave all the other volumes the same that that would be beneficial to a lot of users! It would also work with some games too.
My second request is that when a call comes in there is a pop-up like with text messages where the running app is not disturbed and the user has a choice to either close the app and reply to the text or just cancel it and stay running the current app. Particularly with navigation apps when a call comes in, even if you don't want to answer it, your app is closed - imagine that at a busy junction/intersection? Even if you cancel the call you still need to wait a good 30 seconds or more (a long time while driving!) while the app reloads and gets you back to where you were... A pop up with options of 'Talk' and 'Cancel' would be ideal so if you DO want to talk then you have the choice to close the current app rather than the iPhone forcing it closed.
Thanks for reading! |
maybe if a load of people send similar requests then we might get some useful features added to the phone!

I wonder if the mixer, or at least the level of sound from an application, can be done within the application itself. |

Navigon have got about right with the last update to their iPhone application, it lowers the volume of the iPOD music while it issues the navigation instructions then brings the music back to the previous level - Far better than anything else in this area, it sounds profesional and works well, so if Navigon can get it right so can the others (if they ever get around to releasing their applications) - Mike |

Hopefully Sygic will keep playing catch up so that we get these features also.
I expect (or hope) that they are collecting feedback and want to incorporate as many improvements as possible in one go so that we don't have to keep downloading 1.8GB again and again and again.
But, I would also hope they are looking at a redesign where they keep Map data separate from application. |

I have not updated to the latest Navigon yet at I quite like the way I can set the Speech level of navigon slightly higher than the music being played
I noticed the latest update to the Roadee app pauses the music then says the instruction then resumes the music
I listen to speech podcasts mainly and dont want miss any of the podcast if the music is "lowered" but not paused

Strangely, having now had the opportunity to use both Navigon and Sygic I'm finding I prefer Navigon's solution.
It's clearly been designed for the iPhone using all the UI features and is simple and to the point offering all the basic features most of us need. _________________ Darren Griffin |

indeed. while i love sygic it's just not an iphone app and is often counter-intuitive when you have been using an iphone for some time! |
